Years ago when I coached a travel team, we had some games in Crown. Apparently, it was NASCAR night the night before for the fireants game and there were quite a few brawls. The benches were loaded with smelling salt packets. Kids were all picking up the packets asking us what they were. Some of the coaches may have tried a few, but cannot confirm.

how much bankrolling did the Canes do? My understanding is that the project was in the works long before Dundon came on the scene (I spoke to a guy 4 years ago that that told me what was in the works). It’s unclear to me if the Canes funded any of the facility or just agreed to be a tenant.

It doesn’t change your overall point, I was just curious how much investment the Canes have in the place, m no it that it matters.
They put some nice banners in Cary and Garner .... but I can tell you with 100% certainty that that’s it. Unless there is some plan for upgrades, marketing is all they’ve done.

From Sara's Athletic Q&A today:

"My sources still indicate (as I and others have previously reported) that it looks like the Hurricanes’ AHL affiliate will be the Chicago Wolves. Without saying too much too soon, though, don’t jump to conclusions about why this is happening. It’s a fluid situation with moving pieces and the Canes are more in the right than you might think. Sorry, I’ve been saying this for months regarding this situation, but there will be more to come."

Another non-update update, but for the first time Sara states an actual opinion: "the Canes are more in the right than you might think." For whatever that's worth.

"In the right" doesn't sound like a squabble over affiliation fees, which would be a completely neutral argument from a fan POV.

That phrasing sounds more like something strategic in the works, such as the theory about owning an in-state AHL franchise going forward.

Could be a tie-in to the above or just more speculation in 29 mins:

I mean, that's pretty much a given at this point; Sara basically confirms it in her article. It'll be interesting to see if there's a term tied to the Chicago deal. One or two years means something else is in the works, imo. If it's a longer-term deal, then that'll be weird and unsettling.

Yes she is..just curious re: what the party line will be this time.

Regards of the length of the arrangement...hope we can help them fix their ugly marketing.

One or two years is pretty standard, I'm not sure that it means much if those are the terms.

I mean it's a given right now. Only question is if we're looking at doing something like buying Utica long term to move to Greensboro or something. The length of this deal will be telling.

Ah well, I was really looking forward to watching Bokk, Honka, Puistola, etc grow 20mins down the road from my house. Guess I’ll spring for AHL Live to catch up if they have a season this coming year. Can’t say I’ll be going to anymore Checkers games.

I hope Priskie and Luostarinen kept their leases for their apartments in Charlotte.

New title in order?

I’m not too worked up about the Canes not being affiliated with the checkers as I do I think it will have much bearing on Canes revenue. I can empathize with Canes fans in Charlotte though.

I’ll wait til more comes out on what Sara was stating before making any further judgment.
