The team definitely looked sluggish, but Montreal played a strong defensive game as well.
The kid defensemen are a year or two away, they're 2 lines deep with a makeshift bottom six.
With Hart in goal, they're not a bad team, but not a top eight time quite yet.
Hagg and AMac didn't lose this game, nor did Varone or Knight. The players who matter didn't come through.

They're where you'd expect them to be in year five of a rebuild. The team is on the right track. But not there yet.

Stop blaming the coaches, Lavi couldn't win, Berube couldn't sustain, Hakstol couldn't sustain, Gordon, well . . .
It's the talent, they're just starting to fill out a NHL roster. This year we've seen flashes of what is coming in the near future.
Myers is up, Morin will get his cameo, but Frost isn't available, Farabee? Alllison? Laczynski?
It takes time, next year they'll be deeper even before Fletcher makes any moves, if he doesn't screw it up, they should be a juggernaut by 2021-22.

Now it's time to play Morin, call up a couple AHL guys and send Varone and Knight down to try and get them into the playoffs.

Berube sucked, Hakstol sucked more, Gordon sucks.

Lavi was and is a good coach.

Stop pretending that coaching isn't important. Or more accurately, stop engaging in blatant double standards to double down on your absurd and illogical defenses of a failure.

I didnt even watch this game, but i couldve scripted his response. Thats how pathetic it is these days.

Last year, it was the depth players that were the issue. Hak didnt have a bottom 6 and thats how he lost the season.

This year, its the top 6, despite just about every one of them being more productive at 5v5. The hypocrisy is astounding.

This season started with Hakstol and Hextall, and it now will end with Gordo and his mismatched collection of mediocre assistant coaches, and Minnesota's former GM in charge.
This team played better in the second half of the season, but the first half of the season killed any possibilities of this squad making a playoff run.
I'm very glad that the Hacksol experiment finally ended, and I am really happy that Hextall was fired. Hextall drafted some potentially decent players, but his worst trade ever was the one that sent Braydon Schenn to the Blues for, Jori Lehtera and two draft picks who may eventually make it to the NHL, but who knows when it'll happen. I know everyone here loves Frost, but wasn't he recently given a long suspension from his league for cross-checking a player in the head (that's not a great thing to include in your pre-NHL resume, the refs will be watching him like a hawk).
Hextall should have been fired after the Schenn trade, too bad it took so long!
Come on Jiiiiiim... The Schenn Lethera trade wasn’t about acquiring Lethera it was about getting two 1sts that could potentially be better then Schenn down the road when this team is ready to contend.
Hextall was maybe a little too patient but he did a decent job giving this team a future to contend.
Hextall shit the bed with the coaching staff he hired and kept around too long.

Hexys MO is amateur evaluations not so much with the pros that are already in the league.

Hart with another good one (.943). That's promising.

Of our -21 scoring deficit, -19 has come in the first period. Our permanent coach will have some low hanging fruit getting the guys ready to play in the first.

Hard to believe that was a crucial game for the season. They played like they’ve been dead for a long time.

That trade brought back what are probably the top two prospects right now. But yeah that trade was a fireable offense.

Come on.Gordok has coached this team to a 50-win pace & it’s STILL the coaches’ fault. Enough with the scapegoating. It took the team 59:42 to score one goal against Pittsburgh, & they only mustered one against Montreal. They lack scoring depth, not that those who laughed at the notion will acknowledge their mistake.

He has been a breath of fresh air after the Hak era and really injected some life into the team.

It's more Hart, the improved PP plus a lot more logical ice time (compared to Hak) for the D that's the biggest impact. He gets some credit for sure.

However, you can't ignore how problematic his system is. Poor zone exits and entrances, endless icings, perimeter shots, atrocious D usages..

I agree we need a few new faces for next year.

The amount of people here that like to put Morin in the lineup in a lost cause while you have more experienced players in it is very funny.

You need talent to win against better team. You wont win with less skilled players that dont have the IQ and hockey senses to counter better players. There is reasons why he only have 3 nhl games and its not bad managment or bad coaching. Scott Gordon develloped good players and role players asked in the minors like Ghost and Hagg.

Are you trully observers of the game of hockey or it just a hobby to come here and speak nonsense to pass the time?

For example: do you find any reasons why Kenny Agostino
Got succes with the Devils after being claimed off the waivers from Mtl and Nikita Sherbak is still in the minors with the Reign? In a really bad and old Los Angeles team that needed young and fast skilled players? I'll ask you this?

This is a whole bunch of nonsense. Why bother typing if you are just going to write that?

This season is now over. Time to play the guy who's been on the roster all season. Have a nice day.

I agree goaltending is the reason for their run & have said so all along.

I still like Gordon, though, & think complaints about his alleged systems are vastly overblown.

Seriously. Make this team a good first period team that has a good start to a season and you’ll look like Scotty Bowman.

Not so sure about that. He has done some good things. Some of that’s goes to Wilson though. But he did lose 8 in a row. We have now gone 1-3 and really should have been 0-4 with the team basically out and set for another letdown they could do very badly the rest of the year. It may balance out by the end. And as others have said. Myers replaced amac and hart won rookie of the month. You basically added a very good top pair dman and a very good starting goalie to booster Gordon. Plus coots has played amazing to fishing the year so add in an elite selke level player playing the best Hockey of his career.

Gordon being better than Hakstol is a low bar to clear. He doesn't hold the team back as much. But his brand of and chase hockey simply does not win in the playoffs.
