Actually you can't, because when you have a solid goalie you play with confidence b/c every mistake (and every player makes some, including this board's "local heros") doesn't end up in the back of the net.
And a really good goalie allows you to be more aggressive, knowing he'll CYA.

On the other hand, bad goalies make a team play tight, knowing they can't make a mistake and most nights they'll need 5 goals to have a chance of winning.

Hmm, does that sound like any team we're watching?

This ain't it chief

Konecny, Sanheim, Stolarz, Myers, Friedman, NAK, etc. are all just rotting away under this coach and a lot of them won't ever get a chance for some reason. Stolarz is healthy and, somehow, playing him is a worse option than picking up hot potato Pickard off the waiver wire or playing career-1B Elliott or the glass phenomena Neuvirth. It doesn't matter if half our D corps is throwaway garbage, kids don't deserve playing time. Konecny may be our second best and probably most dynamic natural winger? Nah, let's play him for 14 to 16 minutes a night the whole year and lower to 12 once the playoffs hit. Can't wait for that 10 game losing streak either. Maybe this is it right now.

I really don't give a shit anymore. Fire Hextall, put Clement in the broadcast booth and fire him the same day, chop Lappy's head off, turn Boruk, Coates, and Hatcher into a human centipede, keep Hak on the whole year and tank then fire him 3 games into next season like you did Lavi. I finally completely lost it, just f***ing do something that gives a f***ing whiff of accountability.

To me goaltending is the main issue. Saying this of course it includes wrong usage by the coach and severe mistakes of the management over more than a decade.

You can be successful without superstar forwards, you can be successful without superstar defenders, but you simply cannot survive bad goaltending. Isn´t it true that your best penalty killer should be your goalie? So why have we been struggling in this department for long time? Is this really a coaching problem?
When was the last season the Flyers were carried by real good goaltending? Well, there have been short flashes by Mason and ever shorter lucky streaks by others. But the most recent name that comes to my mind is Cechmanek. Maybe I missed someone.

Waive the usual supects and bring up Stolarz in a bold move. It won´t mean there won´t be bad plays by Folin anymore but it might help to win a game without having to score 4 goals or more.

Another game another great example of Sanhiem's offensive vision. That play he made to attack the seam then dish to voracek at a better spot to shoot was sweet

Weise fumbled the puck twice then literally crossed into the middle, at the top of the "formation" of a 3-2 at the offensive blueline. Baffling. But our coach keeps him in over Vorobyev, while moving Laughton from W to C. Shocking, I know.

Laughton moving from W to C was detrimental. He was much less noticeable tonight. Except on the PK. Made a beauty of a short pass out of the corner to Lehtera for the easy out. Also that SHG chance.

Speaking of Vorobyev, Knight was meh. Had a hand in that nice feed to Raffl in the first. That was it. He for some reason decided to use his skate to receive a puck instead of his stick when the pass wasn't really that bad. Possession lost. Shocking, I know.

These turnovers. Ghost and Giroux turn it over at the blue line and both result in goals. Take care of the puck. It seems like every goal against is on a transition. The opponent quickly goes from D to O and the Flyers can never seem to keep up

The Konecny Weal Lindblom line has been really good

Are you f***ing kidding me Folin

Puck off the ref, then Pickard just kind of puts his skate on the post. I'm not finishing this, it's 6am and I had to work 3p to 4:30a because some jackass pharmacist called off overnight and I covered 2/3rds of her shift. I'm also not formatting this nicely because I'm tired. Good night.

Weal konecny and lindblom did look really good out there.

Ghost and Giroux did make some brutal turnovers. THis is what is alarming to me. Our best players make the most egregious mistakes. Voracek, Giroux, Couts, Ghost, Provy they are all guilty of bad plays and bad efforts and you have to live with it becasue you need those guys but on the other hand you can' live with them constantly doing that . I am not a fan of Toews, I think he is overrated and tbh a disappointment considering the talent he has been surrounded by his whole career but that guy does not make mistakes. He never hurts you, and I don't know if its coaching or whatever but we are really lacking that discipline from our top guys. Couts is the closest thing we have to a guy who plays very discipline hockey, but even this year he is doing things that are uncharacteristic on the offensive end that is leaving him exposed on the defensive side.

I don't care about Hakstol and I don't care about the playoffs.
I'd much rather deep six this season than make a bad desperation trade for a goaltender.

Because once Hart is ready, we have the best goalie prospect in the NHL on the doorstep.
And we're not asking him to be the savior, just be a real goalie.

For this season, I'm betting on Lyon/Neuvirth taking over by November, Stolarz pushing for a shot by spring, and if Hart progresses, he could pull a "Murray" and be our playoff goalie.

This optimism is so silly.

Yeah, Hart will be our Murray. Who will be our Crosby, Malkin, and Letang?

Really grinded out that loss last night. Good shit.

Sanheim looked like a horsecocked stud at least. You can see him oozing confidence now. Strong on the puck, skating like a gazelle, crispy passes, and making all the right decisions in the o-zone. Starting to really look like the player that dominated in Calgary. He looked fantastic QBing the 2nd PP unit. Put Provy to shame in that regard. Hopefully Dawn Heelstick doesn't neuter the piss out of him.

Ignoring the hyperbole (or at least I hope it is), you're severely underrating the power a certain Flyers fan has gained in the Carolina front office.
It's come up in threads around here recently and this makes me wonder. Anyone have any clue what that flute playing actuary they hired is up to and how much input he has?

I hope Hart isn't Murray, who started hot and then went downhill.
I just want him to be a consistent, top 10 caliber goalie, not a miracle worker.
That's ALL this team really needs.

They'll straighten out the sloppy play, it's the best players who are screwing up too much, if Hagg/Folin have a bad game (and still, of the 4 goals they were on ice for, at least half would have been stopped by a decent goalie) that's to be expected, if your 3rd pair were better, they wouldn't be your third pair for long. Top players have to start playing like top players, and that means cut back on bad turnovers and back check.

Get the first two lines straightened out and the top 4 D-men settled, and this team will make some waves.
IF they can find someone just decent this year in goalie, just to stop the bleeding.

2020-21 is the year this team should be dominating the NHL, deep from top to bottom with Hart ready to carry the load.
But it would be nice to have some decent hockey to watch as the 18 starters gradually improve the next two years.

Oh. It was the pig one that freaked the **** outta me, I barely even noticed the clown one
When I first saw that pig one it freaked me out too, but I've been seeing that pig pop up for almost twenty years now. Actually saw the whole video and that ending clip is the only creepy part, mainly because of those teeth. before that it's just a guy in a jaunty pig costume dancing with some lady.
