It's not fixed guys. A firm like Ernst & Young isn't going to potentially destroy its reputation by fixing a sports draft.

Still a lousy result. The 8 play in teams should not have been in it.
As a former employee, you are giving them far too much credit.

Or just look at Arthur Anderson. Or prob KPMG in 5-10 years.

That said, yea, I don't think it was fixed. Just a horrendous setup by the NHL, per usual. Worst run league in pro sports.

Not possible since the two teams play each other. Unless the Carolina pick is lottery protected (I don't think it is) the Rangers have a 12.5% at the pick no matter what.

If the play-in never happens they'd have a 25% shot at it.

He was saying it's a 25% shot of the Rangers or Arizona getting the #1 pick

BTW if HF will allow me to finally post this:

LOL Arizona's gonna get #1 overall aren't they? Darn you Hall

This is exactly what I'm fearing.

PLUS, how much you want to bet the teams competing in the Qualifying rounds won't fight so hard to win knowing that there's a chance at landing Lafreniere?

Absolute BS!

This was a Pure Gongshow by the League.

The Draft should've only involved the teams NOT participating.

they would have to lose their play in series and considering where they were in the standings would have the worse odds of winning it.
All the play in losers have the same odds of getting the pick at 12.5%. If Pittsburgh loses the series against Montreal they'd have a 12.5% chance at Lafreniere.

Teams aren't going to actively tank out of the playoffs just for a 1/8 shot at winning the top pick, this isn't 1984 where the Penguins tank 100% got them the top pick.

So if you had to put money down, figure the few early favorites to be NJ's pick at 7 would be one of Holtz, Sanderson, Raymond or Rossi?

How do you know that?

Things are wacky this year.

Some teams may just do things that they ordinarily would not do.

BTW, 3.75% chance the Devils end up with no extra first round picks in the 1st round this year according to Micah on Twitter (AZ and Vancouver both losing their play-in round and Az winning lottery). That is a higher percentage chance than the slot that won the #1 tonight (12 best odds).

So it's a non-zero chance that this could turn into a total disaster and push back a rebuild by 1+ extra years. Especially since we don't have a second or a 3rd this year.

The bigger worry from a competitive standpoint is how many players themselves want to stick it out in a bubble with the risk factor?

wow that’s brutally stupid. I thought it would be based off of regular season point % lol wow the nhl really did screw this up.

Remember when the guy on ESPN said hockey wasn’t a top 4 sport and got bashed?

I could see Lafreniere end up on the Habs. When's the last time they had a big French Canadian superstar?

Disaster?

Try "NIGHTMARE".

Looks like I'm going to be a Coyote and Canuck fan for a little bit.

Quick and dirty mock draft version 1.0:

1. TBD - LW Alexis Lafreniere
2. LAK - LW Tim Stutzle
3. OTT - C Quinton Byfield
4. DET - C Marco Rossi
5. OTT - RW Lucas Raymond
6. ANA - RD Jamie Drysdale
7. NJD - LD Jake Sanderson
8. BUF - LW Cole Perfetti

....perhaps contingent on where the Arizona pick ends up. If it stays around #10, then I'd be targeting the leftover of Holtz/Quinn.
