LINDY RUFF NEEDS VIAGRA!!

New Jersey(No Fanz!)
Quick and dirty mock draft version 1.0:

1. TBD - LW Alexis Lafreniere
2. LAK - LW Tim Stutzle
3. OTT - C Quinton Byfield
4. DET - C Marco Rossi
5. OTT - RW Lucas Raymond
6. ANA - RD Jamie Drysdale
7. NJD - LD Jake Sanderson
8. BUF - LW Cole Perfetti

....perhaps contingent on where the Arizona pick ends up. If it stays around #10, then I'd be targeting the leftover of Holtz/Quinn.

You think Holtz lasts until #10? I don't.

I'd take Sanderson ONLY IF Rossi, Raymond, and Holtz are gone.

unfortunately Fitzgerald sees the issues with this low scoring team are not having good enough defenseman, which is true, but yea they’ll probably go after Sanderson who is good, but I’d rather high end forwards.

I don't truly understand the rationale of tanking out of a gifted playoff berth for an actual this year here and now chance to win the cup to bank on a 12.5% chance to draft a player who might eventually help you win a cup. It's some sort of HF logic, and not really real world logic.

THAT BEING SAID

If there ever was a year and situation where the owner can come in the locker room and be like hey guys, do your best out there. And if you happen to lose you just get to stop being put at risk to contract a big time virus that could infect your family and can just go home again until the next season eventually starts...

this is the year where players might actually listen to something like that.

Honestly I’m fine with the yotes winning the pick. It pushes to next year and maybe hall thinks of staying there which will give the devils another pick.

I also don’t think the yotes will be much improved next year just because they got laff in the draft

Should certainly still be good players available at 7, but dropping back a few spots certainly has me concerned that Tom "toughness and size" Fitzgerald will talk himself into using a top 10 pick on Jake Sanderson.

My hope is that he clings to the size / physical angle he spoke of before and decides he can wait and pick up Guhle or someone else later on. I don't have anything against Sanderson, but he's simply not a top 7 prospect in this draft for me.

I agree. This team needs high end talent, and the Coyotes have a good shot at regressing hard. I'd rather roll the dice on an unprotected 2021 pick then end up with like 9-11 in this draft.

no player is going to pass up a chance at A playoff spot for a slight chance of winning a kid who might or might not pan out. For a team that you might or might not be on to see if it works out?

You think shea Weber is going to want to pass up a playoff spot for a chance of laff? Which again is just a chance at him. Now multiply Weber by every vet that hasn’t won a cup. No one team will tank for him he isn’t even suppose to be generational

Probably not, although for me #4-9 seems, for the lack of a better word, a bit interchangeable (personally like Holtz a smidge better than Raymond, so the mock draft doesn't necessarily reflect my own feelings). This grouping sorta reminds me a bit of the 2010 Draft when Fowler/Gormley both unexpectedly fell out of the top 10.

I hate to draft by position, but at least right now I'm liking the thought of Sanderson plus a winger over a winger first and risking a D not being there for Arizona's pick. I haven't done as much reading on this class as I normally would have by this point, but I'm liking what I've read/seen on Jack Quinn. Plus if we're collecting Ottawa 67's, our staff is probably very familiar. So he could be a decent consolation prize with the Arizona pick if that's how it were to shake out.

With all the hate laff will get esp if he ends up on a good team? I wouldn’t be surprised if he busted honestly. Lot of negative energy out there towards him

Why even leave yourself open to the idea a team could tank out? Just hold it after the play in games.

It was so silly to do it this way and just as silly the odds aren't weighted.

Players aren't going to tank a playoff series. You'd have to have a GM or coach willing to deliberately sabotage their lineup to do it, and that would be pretty obvious.

IMO this chaos changes things up a bit in that I don't see Drysdale falling I just don't see Ottawa/Detroit/Anaheim pass up Drysdale with their 5th pick if he's still there:

1. TBD - Lafreniere
2. LA - Byfield
3. OTT - Stutzle
4. DET - Perfetti
5. OTT - Drysdale
6. ANA - Raymond
7. NJD - Rossi
8. BUF - Holtz

I honestly doubt the team will take Sanderson. He is the "anti analytics" pick. IMO they will favor a forward over Sanderson. The only way I see them taking Sanderson is if the Scouting Department has him ranked well above the forwards. IMO Harris would not be happy with a Sanderson pick. He likely prefers a player that fills a high production bucket in whatever number the Devils value.

Well we’re apparently hiring one of Lindy Ruff, John Stevens or Peter Laviolette, so analytics are probably out the window.

Except the Coyotes will now have Laf if the pick rolls over, that should improve them to an extent. 9-11 is about the par of what we can expect next year, might as well get it now.

I like Rossi but we have so many playmakers as is it. Still, BPA and all that jazz.

Perfetti has a rocket of a shot, that type of scorer is something we desperately need.

BTW, 3.75% chance the Devils end up with no extra first round picks in the 1st round this year according to Micah on Twitter (AZ and Vancouver both losing their play-in round and Az winning lottery). That is a higher percentage chance than the slot that won the #1 tonight (12 best odds).

So it's a non-zero chance that this could turn into a total disaster and push back a rebuild by 1+ extra years. Especially since we don't have a second or a 3rd this year.
And in that scenario the devils get two unprotected firsts from two teams in the same division. it's not really a disaster especially when it comes to Vancouver's pick.
