Ghost did so many good things in this game that I think he can build off this game and finish the year strong. It just goes to show how many dumb narratives surround him at the moment.
"Ghost can't play against the Penguins."
"Ghost can't play defense."
"Ghost is a PP specialist."

Imagine what he could do with a partner who wasn't AMac.

It is absolutely vital for Myers to prove he can play in the NHL regularly to the Flyers' brass so they will feel comfortable moving on from Hagg/AMac. It's also vital to get the Top 4 back into sensible combos, i.e. Provorov-Ghost and Sanheim/Gudas.

Really frustrating.

But there is good news.

Clearly, Hart, for one.

Also, the Pens are a declining team. They were pretty lucky tonight, especially with the quick whistle reffing.

We've got good talent, and more on the way.

A permanent coach, who brings a system of using fast skating defenders to make quick breakouts with shorter, on the tape, triangular passing routes (instead of standing around and trying home-run passes that turn into icings) would be a revelation. I recall a coach in Chicago who got his defenders to clear their zone like no nobody's business. Is he working now?

We're a team on the rise.

Believe it! :thumbu:

It's hilarious to me that people think Malkin will get suspended. Have you seen what he's gotten away with in the past? He didn't even concuss anyone this time.

I would be legitimately surprised if he is suspended.

19 minutes for Simmonds with TK getting so little is straight up Hakstolian. Swap those.

I agree that TKs ice time was crap, but man have I found him frustrating this year. There is so much explosiveness and skill there but I feel like every game I watch him make poor reads in transition and during odd man and make small errors on pucks or miss the net on prime scoring opportunities where he at least need to produce rebounds, that just drive me bonkers. You can see the tools but I just want to see him put the "toolbox" together soon. (Which I am sure he will)

Concerning Giroux, did you miss his performance in game 82 last season?

I'll never understand this. He has come up big so many times, give the man some help already.

Yeah, like I said. I’m going to be trying to sell my son on the washed up Pens and their historic legacy as the Flyers are tearing it up when he’s like 10 or 11.

:(

Seems like karma for what you did to your dad haha

We'll have to be EXTREMELY lucky to get even ONE of EK, Stone, or Hughes, let alone more than one of them.

We're Flyers fans... we don't have any luck.
Sometimes we do

Flyers played great in every way but the score. It happens. Refs didn't help. Unfortunately, this is just the position the team is in after a horrid start. Good on Hart for tying the win streak record, even if it wasn't his night. I'm just not that negative right now. It was a helluva game. I came away entertained for 2.5 hours.

Patrick may have been the best player on the ice. My lord, it's like he's skating at a gear he's never reached and consistently backing off defenders with his skill. Even on the PP, it's like he was QBing the half wall with more confidence and determination than ever. I ****ing love it. This looks like a future 1C. I'd love even more to see Giroux on his wing right now. It's time.

Oh, and given we lost, how 'bout some Myers?

Guess I'm not buying that Hart jersey. 3 stupid goals. I didn't see the puck bounce to Crosby either. 2nd goal was a joke. Quick whistle negates a Flyers goal. The Pens got destroyed for most of the game and scored 3 stupid goals sprinkled in while being dominated. If that's not classic Flyers/Pens, I don't know what is. NHL quality refereeing. Did I see Raffl take TK's spot? Nice.

Ghost: good play to break up a 2 on 2 at the blue line following a bad change. He is a mess on the PP for some reason, but tonight he fared very well overall. I can't wait to see him not shackled by one of Amac or Hagg because, since we lost, Myers better be playing.

Patrick: continuing to beast. The pass to Lindblom was fantastic. Shrugged off a Pen barreling in at full speed in the corner to win a puck battle in the 2nd with impressive strength. He's playing to and above his size, even QBing the PP at times. Yay

Provorov: Beat 3 forecheckers to get to an easy out causing a near miss on the other end in what was probably one of his more impressive plays tonight. He played well overall.

Lindblom: good to see him continuing to be in good spots. Oh good, now he just ate Jack f***ing Johnson's knee.
  • Murray made a great save on him, and he missed that tic tac toe play in the first from Jake and Couts
  • Had another chance off a rebound in the beginning of the 3rd. Puck in skates. Was a theme tonight.
Sanheim: Love watching him jump into the play. Shame he missed that prime look in the first. 2 opportunities that got tangled in his skates on the second powerplay.

Hagg: completely fanned on a pass in the neutral zone, then literally shot the puck into Bjugstad at the Flyers' circle. Like Bryzgalov.

Amac: what in the sweet holy f*** was he doing on that Bjugstad play where Hart made the save on his stomach? Are you f***ing serious here guy? Ghost is on the left side and he just....he literally drifted behind him. Ignoring the entire right side of the ice and the right wing. Get this guy to the top pair ASAP.

Shrek is a f***er and a little f***ing punk. Love watching him suck and turn into a toddler. I expect 0 goals and 1 chance on this 5 minute major, the powerplay is embarrassing. Oh look, at least they didn't get shut out. If the gameplan is to not have Giroux touch the puck anymore on the PP, it's being executed perfectly. Speaking of Giroux, he was bad tonight and that line is getting smoked. He needs to play wing again.

No call on Raffl when he gets crosschecked into the boards. Jokes galore. The Penguins haven't changed. Their cheapshots after the whistle and behind the play never end. f*** them all, and Murray is overrated. Never seen a better mediocre goalie. Rebound control and the fact that he maybe catches the puck cleanly half the time is laughable.

The empty netter that was tipped by Ghost into the net was a perfect metaphor for the night. This was a reality check for the team. 9-1-1 in their last 11 and miles away from the playoffs. The reality is we'll be picking in the top 10 in all likelihood. I look forward to seeing Hart bounce back.

I hate the Penguins. But that was just one of those games where we couldn't catch a break. Young players have that moment when they arrive as they get confidence....I remember Giroux dominating a game on a line with Powe and Upshall and thinking this is the real deal. Nolan Patrick is at the same place.

Luck would be Gordon sucking and crashing this team out of the playoffs so you guys get JQ.

As a Pens fan I’m expecting to see the Flyers hit a 2007-08 Pens level soon. Too much depth coming up.

Super worried my son will grow up a Flyers fan when you guys are the dominate team in the East in a couple years.

Be very worried. I became a Flyers' fan in '75 while living in Montreal. ;)

Provorov had an ugly game. Officially three turnovers but from watching, it seemed much more. Couturier a -4 when matching up vs Crosby

I don’t know why people are getting mad. Konecny hasn’t done a thing. At least Raffl was skating hard tonight.

Anyways. Tough loss. Not Hart’s best game.

JVR pisses me right off
Actually, PP2 looked more dangerous against the Pens than PP1 did when on the ice, largely due to Konecny!
