I agree that in today's game it would be a hell of an accomplishment, however, in terms of the way the NHL looks at it they only recognize Lemieux for 50-in-50 for the 1988-89 season, not the 1992-93 or 1995-96 seasons. He had cancer in 1992-93 but the NHL said rules are rules.
Yeah I think the whole idea is that it's easier to maintain a high GPG with less games and more "rest". Although Lemieux's case could be argued as not being very restful to say the least.

I think that is one reason. Another reason, which is no longer really relevant, but was in the past when there were some really weak teams, is that you could say have 49 in 49 with game 50 against a strong team with a great goalie and game 51 against a really weak one, so you sit out game 50 and then play your team's 51st game, but your 50th, against the weak team.

More like because back in the old days regular season was 50 games long...

MacKinnon has 6 in 5. Not sure how you missed that but noticed Palmieri

Me neither. Although actually, Zajac's 2 in 2 is the stealthiest one as he's low on the leader board list. Like this then:

Above pace:
Matthews 6/10
Pastrnak 5/7
Debrincat 5/6
Mackinnon 5/6
Palmieri 2/4

On pace:
Tavares 6/6
Bergeron 5/5
Toews 5/5
Kane 5/5
Aho 5/5
Pettersson 5/5
Radulov 4/4
Benn 4/4
Kessel 4/4
Perron 4/4
Point 3/3
Zajac 2/2

Palmieri scored already but let's not get into mid-game updates.

Cam Neely did it also if memory serves. But was after the '.....' targeted his knee and missed games.

Seabass! I think it was some games in one season and then the rest of the games the next season.

93 - 94 - Neely only played 49 games that whole season and put up 50 goals.

A league leading 13 game winning goals while only 49 games also - which is equally as impressive.

Right. Neely was a monster in his prime.

Memories fade and younger people whom see the numbers or youtube clips might not get it - but Neely was nearly unstoppable. He was the (or top 2) best goal-scorers while being one of the toughest guys in the league and was nearly unstoppable - until '......' realized the only way to do it was to purposefully take out his knee.

p.s. of anyone on that list. wouldn't it be amazing if Bergeron could. Everyone league-wide would be cheering him on.

Here's how it looks after (almost) October 16th, with only the Vegas - Sabres game still underway. But that game won't likely impact the list.

Pettersson gets knocked off the list due to the cheap shot.

Above pace:
Matthews 10 in 7
Palmieri 7 in 4
Pastrnak 7 in 5
MacKinnon 7 in 6
DeBrincat 6 in 5

On pace:
Bergeron 5 in 5
Toews 5 in 5
Kane 5 in 5
McDavid 4 in 4

Note that Mack has the most EV strength goals in the league (all 7).
