If I've calculated this correctly, here are the most goals through a TEAM's first 50 games going back to 2005-06:
39 - Ovechkin (2008)
38 - Stamkos (2011)
37 - Kovalchuk (2008)
35 - Ovechkin (2014), Kovalchuk (2006)
34 - Ovechkin (2006), Gagne (2006)
33 - Ovechkin (2009), Stamkos (2012), Nash (2015)
I was surprised to see Nash. He scored 33 goals in his first 50 games, then scored 9 goals in 29 games from there (he missed three games as well).
So, through 50 games, there hasn't been a single player scoring at the rate of even 0.8 GPG going back to 2005-06. You'd have to go back to 1997 to find a player scoring at that rate (Jagr - with 42 goals in 1997 through his team's first 50 games).
