Kuch (pacing for 35+ points), Vasy (crazy GSAx), Price (crazy shorthanded stats), and Point (can't stop scoring) have been the standout players these playoffs. Vasy has the advantage in the fancy stats but price has come up big in big moments and stands out on his own team while vasy is sharing the spotlight

Hedman, Pietrangelo, Fluery, Pageau, barzal have all been good but clearly below those guys in my eyes.

Vasi is great and all - but unless something changes dramatically in this round 3 series or finals, there's no way he wins the smythe. Kucherov is putting up close to historic numbers, Lightning are so good offensively and have never really been worried. They won't give the goalie the MVP nod under such circumstances.

Maybe if Kuch/Point go quiet and Vasi has to completely steal a few games in this round or in finals to win. It's not that he hasn't been good, the narrative just doesn't support him at all because Tampa is too good.

Price
Point (even though I prefer Kucherov, but they will give it to Point)
Kucherov
Pietrangelo

I don't see a way they give it to Point over Kucherov as of today. Kuch has 8 more points, that's a really big gap for only 15 gasmes. Kucherov is also the bigger name, who also led playoff in points last year without the recognition then. Point is great and could make a run for it still with more goals/Kuch slowing, but as of today this is clearly Kucherov ahead imo.

I'd agree that Carey Price is #1 overall - with Kucherov not far behind at #2.

Point is currently just 3 goals away from tying the active player record of most goals in a playoff run. If he were to exceed that number there's definitely a case to be made for him over Kucherov if the gap in points doesn't get humongous. I think Kucherov is still ahead as of now but the gap is definitely not big.

The all-time playoff goal record is 19. Point has 12. If he ties/surpasses that, that's the very significant milestone.

15 goals would be great - but I don't think it would be that significant if he's still this far behind Kucherov in overall points.

It would all depend on how the finals panned out. Last year I think Hedman was Tampa's MVP through rounds 1, 2 and 3, but Point had better finals and they ended up pretty much tied in the Conn Smythe votes.

Yeah for sure. Finals is hugely important and will play a huge role, especially on a team as deep as Tampa where a lot of players will be close enough to be in the running. I'm just saying as of today, Kucherov is ahead and has a pretty clear gap, if not a huge one.

As for the finals - my predictions is Price laps both your players in a winning cause, so don't worry you won't have to differentiate between them ;)

If the Habs go to the final and lose in 6+, Price and Kiprusoff will go down and 2 players on losing teams that should have won a Conn Smythe. Thomas would probably have won it also had the Bruins lost in '11.

I say that because Price is the only reason the Habs make it that far. He has to go GOD mode and plays like Kipper in '04. Or Thomas in '11m or Hasek in '99 (Even tho Joey New won it)

Varlamov would be my pick for NYI.

Point deserves some love for TB, he is leading the entire playoffs in goals by a good margin, and his defensive play is off the charts.

Watch them giving it to Point.

Vgk - refs
Tbl - vasilevskiy
Nyi - tbd
Mtl - price i guess but the play in front of him deserves credit

You "guess" for Price because... because Vasi 's team doesn't deserve credit as well?

If a Tampa p'ayer wins the CS it's not Vasilevsky lol

Point has every big goal in this series ... Kuch is a pp specialist. It's point by a landslide.

Not really. Kucherov's Game 2 is the best performance TB has seen in these playoffs.

I think Kucherov still has an edge over Point on TB's side of the race. Both guys are absolute monsters in the playoffs though, so it's not like giving the nod to one discredits the other.

Last year, for instance, Point was better than Kucherov by a decent margin, despite Kucherov racking up more points. Hedman was just other-wordly, and thus, a relatively easy cup win, even without Stamkos.

PP specialist or not this dude has 24 pts already.

Fair enough but sometimes the leading goal scorer wins the Smythe and not the points leader.

All of that being said there are probably 3 or 4 guys that could still win it it’s TB goes all the way, a few games left for the narrative.
