BTW I am curious to see what the numbers are on this game but the raw Corsi won't do the Flyers justice. They dominated play in the first period and could have been up 2-0 or so before all the silliness started. They were missing half their defensemen for huge chunks of the second period and score effects are a real thing.

They were still in the high 30s with Score adjustments. 40% when Tied. 32% Up 1.

Much better by xGF% -- ~48%

You want me to anoint Hart the next great goalie after 2 games?
You want me to declare that 5 goals in 2 games means we now play real offense?

Hart isn't quite ready for a Vezina nomination.
And this team really doesn't look that much better, started strong then looked sloppy.
And they still make lots of blind passes, allow odd man rushes, just lucky that these two teams couldn't take advantage of their mistakes.

Thanks fellas. I watched the recap but I figured that only tells some of the story. I’ll rewatch for sure.

So Gordon is doing a average job which is still 2747471818824 times better than Jeff ?

The only thing I would say in addition to what they told you is that IMO Hagg didn't have a "great game" - he did a great job on the PK, especially the long one at the end of the second, where he was spectacular. He struggled badly in the first half of that game, though. Just to put this in context, I have no urge to trash Hagg - he's not someone I hate, like Weise and Andy and Torgo - I mostly just like having fun with him. But he struggled badly at times in that game, as we have seen from him before.

Yeah and that’s okay as long as his usage was a 3rd pairing Dman that’s occasionally used for the PK when there’s plentisome. I’m not sure how much more we are going to get out of Hogg but if he can play shut down D in his own zone I don’t have an issue with him. Tbh, I think a Morin/Hogg pairing would be pain to play against. It’s just the transition game and entering out of the zone that is my concern.

To me, it's more or less OK for now to put him on the third pair and limit him as much as possible, but I'd hope that we have a better option in Big Sam when he is ready. The first thing to do is obviously replace Andy with Myers, or a dead bird, either would be better. Andy is the biggest problem back there by far, and Myers is the next up, so that's that. But then when Big Sam is healthy again, I hope he gets his shot and relegates Haggar to 7D.

He really wasn't much of a shutdown D back there, especially early - there was one sequence where the puck was sitting in front of him and he just kind of looked stunned and lost, like he didn't know what to do with himself. I'm not trying to character-assassinate him and say he did that all night, it was just one play, but he just doesn't look comfortable as an NHL defenseman to me. I'd be happy to have him prove me wrong and make me look stupid(er), but I don't see any reason to believe he is going to become something he has never been. If he does, great.

Provorov and TK have made it pretty obvious that the teams happier without him... and that’s just what was able to leak through the “good hockey boys never bash a teammate or coach” seal.

I would give a lung, a kidney, and a large part of my liver to be able to hear what they really think, like that Ottawa Uber video. Featuring Ghost, TK, Voracek, G, and Raffl.

A few teams are going to exploit the short side high on Hart when coming from the corner area. But he should learn from it.

Wonder if he gets CBus or NYR as we need to at least split those games, but ideally, win both. Gotta beat the divisional teams.
Was thinking the same thing - in particular I was thinking Crosby will do that to him.

I didn’t see the whole game as I was at the Eric Lindros meet and greet. What I saw of th game wasn’t great, BUT I can’t help thinking how many times in the past we’ve played the role of Slump-Buster. It’s a step in the right direction for us to not lose at home to a team who themselves have lost eight road games in a row. I will accept these baby steps at this point!

That was such a good game to be at live, the wells fargo center hasnt been that loud in years. Felt like a playoff game in some aspects.

We were looking for Gritty stuffed animals for my son and my nephew (Sold out til January), if anyone has a lead on how to score one please let me know!

While we shopped, Carter Harts mom walked into the store...it took every ounce of self control to not go up and hug her and thank her for the prince that was promised.
