STAFFORD and Carrick just earned extensions for next season right there. Not sure if that is good or bad.

I call it "meh." but I don't really mind all that much so long as Stafford remains as an injury replacement(ONLY!).

Don't know what the Devils will do about Carrick, though.

Blackwood is the best goalie in the organization until Cory proves that he’s not in an injury induced decline by having a season that isn’t below league average for the first time in 4 years.

I wouldn't mind Carrick as a #7, but we probably need to dump Santini's ass first.

McLeod looked more confident with the puck tonight. Holding it to make a play. When he’s got the puck it looks like the game has slowed down for him a little.

I wish someone had nailed Lemieux.

Good scrappy win. Nice to beat the rags in such a nasty and chippy game. Especially to beat Lundqvist.

I guess now we know how OTHER teams felt when we had Claude. :sarcasm::sarcasm::sarcasm:

Stafford, for as much **** as he gets, it’s hard not to like the guy. In what’s been a miserable season, he’s been the ultimate pro. I appreciate his effort this season.
Fair enough. But he’s done after this. He had a good run late, but it’s time to let it end after this year.

That's dangerously close to advocating losing in a GDT, sir.

:naughty:

I legitimately have no idea why McLeod was ever a decent prospect. All he is good at is faceoffs.

mcleod has made impact on the games had a nice assist on game winner.. .. what are you even watching? so glad most of you are not GMS.. he may take a few years.. but he is playing pretty sound hockey... .as is bastian

I wouldn’t mind Carrick as the #6, but we already have several bottom pairing guys here for next year. That’s the problem. And that’s with penciling Santini no higher than the #7.

Mueller and Greene. Then we have Butcher, Severson, Vatanen and probably Smith. And that’s without even making another hopeful upgrade.

Mueller isn’t signed for next year and I don’t think Carrick is either, so one of them feels like they’re almost definitely not here for next year.

BASTIAN showed nothing last season and he has made significant strides and looks like a future bottom six winger now. McLeod was better than BASTIAN in juniors and still has the potential to at least make himself a bottom six center. Give him some more time to percolate.
agreed i have seen a guy improve each and every game in mcleod.. give him a minute.. ... i go back tot he andy greene scenario where many on this board thought he stunk... he is a border line number being retired defenseman.. you have to know the game... watch the little battles and small plays etc during the game.. not just goals and assists... its important but not everything ...i love how hischier and mcleod are playing in all zones

Also this may be the end of the line for Stafford. Who’s had a decent career. He had some skill once upon a time up in Buffalo. Was a first line player in his prime. It’s sort of Hemingway-esque seeing him hang in there to the end of the 15th round, on his feet, battered, not beaten. Watching him lately has been one of the mild pleasures of the end of this lost season.

he really has.. stepped up with some leadership and played at his best for 25 meaningless games.. hopefully for him it earns him a contract somewhere next season.. he certainly provided some nice depth here in NJ wouldn't mind him back but looks like this team has a few guys ready to make the jump

I do think McLeod has gotten gradually better. It would be nice to see more from him, but I'm not going to judge him too harshly given he's being broken in slowly on a bad team.

He'll be back as the 13th forward/injury guy
I don’t think so.

Not this time.

He’s basically been that for 1.5 years now and he’s only gonna be worse in a year from now. Just let him go. We don’t need to bring back every bottom pairing or depth defenseman/depth forward.

There’s no need, nor room. We have to part ways with some guys or we’re just bringing them back just to bring them back.

Stafford and Noesen already feel like easy players to say goodbye to. Especially since both are not under contract and Stafford looks cooked and Noesen was terrible this year. Injured or not.

Even when we have players performing well in these roles (Gibbons) we don’t bring them back the next year.

I see Bastian being a more effective player next season relative to McLeod, just going on what ive seen in this season.

Hope I'm wrong and both improve in large steps.

if nothing else there will be much competition .. if we make one big move for a defenseman and smith is ready. the D corp could come together... Santini looks to be a very solid #6.. or #7 playing with some more confidence and looks sure of himself.. he does make a nice first pass out of zone.. have seen a marked improvement with him as well... ..

bastian is exactly what this team needs... I'm very impressed with Mcleod.. i know the points are not there yet.. but i think he is just a guy that has to find his groove and role.. big body .. great speed looks good in his own zone.. i expect both of them in the lineup next season..

The thing about Stafford is you would have liked to have seen some of this spark when it mattered and not just when you know it's the end of the season and you're playing for a contract.
