if nothing else there will be much competition .. if we make one big move for a defenseman and smith is ready. the D corp could come together... Santini looks to be a very solid #6.. or #7 playing with some more confidence and looks sure of himself.. he does make a nice first pass out of zone.. have seen a marked improvement with him as well... ..
Santini looks worse to me than he did his first season. I’d say he’s a #7 right now.

He has a good shot but cant gain the O-zone enough to use it and has a hard time holding the line in the offensive zone.

He held it tonight a few times, but the Rangers suck.

bastian is exactly what this team needs... I'm very impressed with Mcleod.. i know the points are not there yet.. but i think he is just a guy that has to find his groove and role.. big body .. great speed looks good in his own zone.. i expect both of them in the lineup next season..

What about joey anderson and Rooney, too many guys looking for those bottom slots...

I hope both those guys make strides this offseason now they got a good feel how the NHL league plays...

bastian is a wall guy possession and cycle guy.. one of the only ones we have.. rooney and anderson are both nice players but we have a bunch of them compared to bastians and mcleods... so if i had to choose two now... I'm going with the former and quite easily

The thing about Stafford is you would have liked to have seen some of this spark when it mattered and not just when you know it's the end of the season and you're playing for a contract.
I think we’re just getting a little too sentimental here.

As much as I’ve talked about the goaltending this year and believe it was more horrific goaltending that derailed us and destroyed our season so early, this team still didn’t get results. And when a team doesn’t get results and finishes with a poor record, changes need to be made. Fat needs to be trimmed, so to speak. And players like current Stafford are not good. Noesen had a poor year (injured or not) and while I was all for giving him another chance next year, he’s done nothing since that beast mode game in Vancouver.

He’s not good enough to bring back, Stafford isn’t good enough to bring back.

He’s here playing so much because we stink.

He got his last chance contract from us in late August of 2017 when he went almost two months into free agency unsigned. He got another chance with the PTO this past year. He’s gotten worse since he came here and his point production since November of 2017 is a joke. Even with this recent surge. This is a player that isn’t good anymore having a hot streak. Remember Bobby Farnham’s streak a few years back?

I think we have an insider from this thread at Hynes presser right now.

Someone is already asking him about if Stafford is retiring or if they’re gonna bring him back.

Gonna be tough choice. I think those 4 made some strides in their stints.

I'll take the win, always nice against the Rags. What a mess of a game though, no defensive play to be seen.

mcleod has made impact on the games had a nice assist on game winner.. .. what are you even watching? so glad most of you are not GMS.. he may take a few years.. but he is playing pretty sound hockey... .as is bastian
Lol. What are YOU watching?!

He had a nice assist on the winner?? You mean that horrid drop pass that would have led to a Rangers odd man rush if not for a great play by Stafford??

What. A. Joke.

Here’s a stat that (hopefully) will make you think twice about wanting Stafford back.

After 8 points in his first 14 games of last season, Stafford only scored 7 more points over his last 45 games of last year.

He has 13 points in 55 games this year.

Over his last 100 games going back to November of 2017, Stafford has 20 points. Throw in his pointless 2 playoff games from last year and it’s 20 points in his last 102 NHL games played. Only 8 goals in his last 102 games. Actually, only 10 goals in his last 113 games.

Let. Him. Walk.

McLeod had a good game today, blind dislike for him that anyone would claim otherwise.

Another example of :

If the Team wins, Hynes is there.

If the Team doesn't, he wishes he wasn't.

I thought he showed his strength in that he was able to get the puck and skate with it up ice, but also his weakness in that once he gained the zone he tried to make a move only to lose the puck multiple times.

Still a work in progress, needs to work on that handle, needs to work on the shot.

But he does have solid foundation in terms of his size speed and defensive game.

Bastian was a guy who had tumbled hard down our prospect ladder. But he was on a very good shot on net/goal scoring run in Bing prior to coming up, and now that I can actually watch him play I have him quickly climbing back up that prospect ladder.

The combination of size and how strong he is on his skates, opponents bounce off him all over the ice. It's pretty interesting to watch.

Like McLeod, his game still needs work. The injury was unfortunate as I think the time here with the big club will be very beneficial going into the offseason. I'd like to see both guys start the year in Bing next year and establish themselves as legit 1st line players. But if I had to choose one to start the year next year in NJ it would be Bastian.

Yeah, well maybe he’s still recovering emotionally from Cory’s hip surgery.

Board Battles Bastion - Killer B as I like to call him brings a nice dimension to his line. Win a puck. Keep a puck. I look forward to his growth. McLeod looks like he's thinking faster than his hands or the other way around. I'm willing to give him some time. Heck, there are going to be some opening next year. It's not like this team is a couple pieces away :).

Good win and way to close out the Rock. Draft selection special is April 9, next Tuesday.

Oh McLeod has lots of room for improvement, but overall he had a fairly strong game. He definitely need to work on making smarter plays when entering the zone, as he looks like he's still trying to force plays that probably worked in the OHL or AHL but aren't going to fly here.

Some of it may just be that he still has that playmaker mentality, when, with that speed, he'd probably be better off attacking the net. Needs to work on his shot, and needs to have more of a shooters mentality especially when he's on the wing.
