I don’t think Kane will be the answer for the Avs 2nd line. 36 year old coming off a hip surgery. Avs need to wait and make changes at the trade deadline. Also depends on how long Lehky is out

Sign Kane and trade for Kuraly out of Columbus to be the new 3C while moving Colton to LW where he can play his forechecking menace game even better.

Nuke - Mack - Mikko
Colton - RyJo - Kane
Wood - Kuraly - LOC
Cogs - Olofsson - Tatar/Drouin/Kivi

Assuming they signed Kane for like $2.5-3M they would have enough LTIR space to do this right now.
If Lehky comes back before playoffs however things would get real tricky but it could still work.

Sounds like we are going to make a line of hips (Kane), shoulders (Lehky) , knees (Landeskog) and toes (Toews), although he's a D and I don't think he's injured, so they may want another D to take that spot.

It's not really the way to put your best foot forward. But then if they signed Foote - maybe that would be the sign that the planets have aligned. I'm just being silly.

Head?- probably a goalie, but I got no reference on that one. Seriously, the Avs do seem to like their reclamation projects.

Go for Laughton, or just go for future/present with sillinger.

The 2nd line really needs to be addressed, Tatar, Drouin, RyJo just doesn’t work and as much as I love the bottom 6 they shouldn’t be counted on to score consistently. For their faults, Kadri and Bura could step up if the top line wasn’t playing well but what we have going now haven’t shown that they can give us a good shift, much less take over a game.

I'd say it's basically 0% chance they trade RyJo this year. You gotta keep in mind as frustrating of a player as he is in the regular season, he legitimately starts to engage once the playoffs roll around.

For that reason alone I think the Avs will be sticking with him for this year. They may re-evaluate in the summer if it doesn't work in the playoffs but I don't think they're overly concerned about what happens in the regular season so long as the Avs are comfortably in the playoffs.

If I had to guess on where the Avs will spend assets this year, it'll be on a legit Top 6 winger to replace Drouin/Tatar(Just one of them) and/or a #4/5 Dman to bump Manson further down the lineup.

IF Landy hasn't suffered any setbacks by the trade deadline I can see them opting not to grab a winger and focus solely on a Dman. Because between Kovalenko and Landy coming back at that point I think they'd take the risk that at least one of them is a legit Top 9 option in the playoffs.

Right now I'd say we're likely looking at:

Nuke - Mack - Mikko
Lehky - RyJo - Tatar*
Wood - Colton - Kovalenko/Landy
Cogs - Olofsson - LOC
Drouin/Kivi/Tufte

Keeping in mind the possibility LOC is on the 3rd line if they can continue dominating all year in which case Tatar probably comes out and Landy/Kovalenko slot on that 2nd line.

On Defense I'd say you've got:

Toews - Makar
Byram - ????
Girard - Manson
Johnson - Jones

And fwiw I think if Colto/Wood can start playing like they have the last week on a consistent basis, that's a legitimately strong bottom 6. At that point your only concern with this roster is the 2nd line and as I've said all along we're basically in Sink or Swim mode with RyJo. He's awful right now but you've just got to bank on him turning it up a couple notches when the playoffs start, as he has every other time in his career.

Yes....

Our top 4 RHD is completely missing.

We 100% need that fixed for the playoffs.

I think it's safe to say at this point in the season that, without question, the most important need to address is 2C. They simply cannot go into a playoff run with a glorified faceoff specialist driving that line. And if MacK is going to continue to be what he is this season, that need is going to be amplified.

I think its safe to say you´re right.

Our big hole is 2C... Again.

Forget about Kane. He wont come to the Avs.

Pretty crazy that this came out of nowhere. Who knew that a team wanting to give away a player for free and taking on half of his salary would be a red flag. Hopefully Cmac can learn his lesson before 2030 or so.

Such a fail. Just go all in on a 2C and a goalie and hope they can bring you back to a chip. Why this passive bullshit. Be aggressive.

I mean we said this last season aswell. They still have not done anything to replace Kadri. RyJo cant even be trusted to play 10 mins 5v5. WTF. Stop being such a bitch and make a power move already.

Enough of these half- measures at 2C. RyJo is not the answer.

Also, Drouin 1+2 in 13 games… yikes

Chris Tanev is just another Manson/EJ at this point. He has lost a step and wouldn't really make this team any better.

Brandon Tanev on the other hand, would fit the team like a glove.

Anyway, no to Tanev or Zads. There's better options out there.

How about we give Johansen some wingers instead of the black holes of offense in Drouin and Tatar?

Those two guys are the problem. Not Johansen

RyJo has played with all of Rantanen/Nuke/Lehkonen and looked like shit 5v5 with those guys too. Maybe we should drop MacKinnon down to insulate him? :sarcasm:

RyJo is JT2C 2.0 and many of us were calling it out all summer. Hell JTC was better 5v5 last year than RyJo has been so far.

Get ready for the second round exit boyz.

RyJo is absolutely the problem. He’s been given Lehky, Nuke and even Rants for a brief stint. The guy is impossible to play with right now because he doesn’t move his feet and generates next to nothing 5v5. Drouin and Tatar are both bad yes, but they’re both wingers and the Avs seemingly have a couple replacements on the way later on with Kovalenko and Landeskog.

RyJo needs to be replaced yesterday, otherwise the burden on our actual productive players just gets heavier and heavier as the season goes on. If CMac waits until the deadline when the prices are highest and our top guys are already dead tired he’s failed at his job.

EVERYONE can see that our 2C is a problem. The fans, the media, the coach, even the players in the room can probably see it by now. It is beyond time to address it.

I think you mean another 1st round exit. This core is happy with 1 cup and getting their pay day. You can tell no one is hungry except LOC and Cogs.
