I have a feeling Bear will regret not signing the qualifying offer.
I wonder if his plan is to point as a comparable player at Warren Foegele whom EDM traded him for in a one-for-one trade and then immediately signed onto a 3x2.75M contract while shipping the racially abused Bear out of EDM, and the COVID contraction that caused Bear to be ditched in a hotel room in an away town for two weeks with no means to uphold his conditioning while infected core players got rescued from Canada on an ambulance and promptly returned to Raleigh.

Injury through long COVID and the special COVID protocol causing issues may prove to be a special case.

A lot of people on twitter don't seem to know that UFA deals can't be used as comparables.

Under Article 12 of the CBA, certain types of evidence are admissible at the hearing and others are not. The evidence may include witnesses, affidavits, documents or any other relevant evidence the parties choose to present at the hearing. The admissible evidence the arbitrator may consider includes looking at “comparable players”, the player’s overall statistical performance, the number of games the player has played in (including injuries and illnesses), the player’s length of service in the NHL and with the team, the contribution of the player to the success or failure of the team in preceding seasons, and any qualities that are more intangible in nature such as leadership or public appeal. Under the MOU, players who played in the 2019-2020 “return to play” games may use their statistics from those games.

Inadmissible evidence includes many specifics surrounding who is a comparable player. The comparable player needs to be a Group 2 RFA coming off of the last year of their contract. The comparable player’s position, age, career games, and average ice time should also be as comparable as possible. In addition, other inadmissible evidence includes the team’s other qualifying offers, prior negotiations between the player and team, newspaper columns, testimonials, videotapes, press reports or similar materials, references to walk away rights or evidence of a team previously exercising its walk away rights, the financial condition of the team or league, the team’s upper or lower limits or player’s share (defined in the CBA), any salary arbitration award from the 2005-2006 season, or any reference to any salary arbitration award or salary compensation that occurred prior to July 22, 2005.

They'll be stuck on AHL compensation more than NHL
Probably wants a one way or guaranteed minimum

Probably this exactly.

A few yrs ago, Forsling elected for arbitration because the Canes were offering him ~$800K at the NHL level and ~$80K at the AHL level. That’s a big difference. Forsling ended up signing a contract for league minimum, but with $250K guaranteed before his case was actually heard. He was plucked off of waivers by FLA that year during preseason as well.

LaJoie likely knows he won’t get a shot at an NHL spot in Raleigh, so he wants to be sure he at least is making 6 figures in the minors with the hope he gets snagged off of waivers by another team when the Canes inevitably send him down.

And funnily enough, Forsling has not played single AHL game since signing that 700k/250k SPC. He's been fulltime NHLer in Florida, with 16 playoffs games, currently starting year 2 of his new 3x$2.667M contract.

Yes, but the draft pick cost would be staggering to get the Flames to let him go. And Tkachuk would be locked into Calgary for a year if the offer was matched.
In all seriousness, the Jackets will likely send Laine the other way to Calgary in any deal for Tkachuk as they can’t afford both as well as Gaudreau! Tkachuk is a much more rounded player than Laine is and it’s a deal the Jackets should go after in my opinion!

Could be about trying to make sure he gets a 1-way contract or large AHL salary.
Funny thing, he's coming off of a two-year one-way deal with zero AHL games during that time, but looks like he's still eligible for receiving a two-way QO (which he must have received).

That's what I think, but there's some silly talk in Philly about him wanting a million plus.

Just a minor correction, Appleton had 21pts in 68 games, not 58.

Puljujarv's arbitration date is July 29.
I don't exactly know who this guy is but apparently he has a podcast...

So Edmonton is now $3M over the cap limit with 10 signed forwards on the roster and RFA's Kailer Yamamoto and Ryan MacLeod still to sign.

Klefbom and Smith go on LTIR which leaved them with about $4.3m to sign Yama and McLeod, though that would leave them with a bare minimum 20 man roster.

With Pulu's $3M salary on the books I would say there's $3.3M left to sign Yama and MacLeod. Klefbom and Smith's salaries total about $6.6M.
BTW, Klefbom's LTIR status is a given but is 40 year old Smith's age a valid reason to take the whole season off by staying on LTIR?

I still get $4.3 with a 20 man roster?
