Spell has been broken! Exactly a week to the day since the deep freeze began, the icy grip has loosened. Woke up today at a comparatively balmy minus 22 (compared to yesterday mornings minus 32), and only going down to minus 25 tonight. About the same tomorrow, and then continuing the downward trend on Sunday into the minus teens and all the way to near zero by Wednesday!

Overall, been a pretty damned nice winter so far, and really, only about 6 weeks left.

It might get cold again though, so I'm just going to stay inside in case it does, and if it does I'll angrily tweet about it. ;)

As strange as it might sound........I miss being up there.

On a side note, early in my trucking career i had driven passed Watson Lake, on my way to Whitehorse and it was the middle of the night. The temperature that night to -47, and the anti-freeze began icing up in the lines close to the radiator and eventually caused a line to blow and all the anti-freeze dumped out so of course i have to pull over immediately. I was able to make a quick repair re-attatching and clamping the hoses to re-seal the lines. But i didn't have enough spare jugs of anti-freeze to refill the rad, and i was getting nervous at this point. I had been outside for less than 20mins and I was feeling cold and was thinking my life could be in considerable danger here. Soon after 2 Russian truck drivers pulled over and gave me their antifreeze so i could fill the rad and get warm again. As this was happening 3 other drivers had come by and pulled over checking up on things. When we had the truck ready to go, 2 of the drivers convoyed with me the rest of the way to Whitehorse to make sure i was safe incase another issue popped up.

It was an incredible experience at the time. They helped me become a part of the trucking community up there on the Alaska highway where we all looked out for eachother. There aren't many places like that anymore and i really miss that comradery.
