View from my house last night…

Not sure I even like living in the Okanagan anymore. I spent a dump load of money putting in a pool and I don’t even want to leave my basement anymore because of all the smoke and fires. And it’s every year now! I lived here for five year like 20+ years ago and we had one fire and it was a big deal, now it’s just the way it is sadly.
That sucks, be safe sir.

My new AC units get installed Wednesday.

Wednesday cant come fast enough.

Just in time for incoming fall weather and no need for it.. heh. Its 20C out and the rain last night pulverized some of the smoke and heat. Its like perfect out today after all this garbage heat/smoke weather. Last night the smoke had me gagging. Was uncomfortable.

Edit: For frame of reference. I’m in the Upper Mission in Kelowna. To the right of the fire is West Kelowna. Left of the fire down at the lake is Peachland and far left of that is Summerland.

So bone dry and hot. Never really liked the region but I'm not a watersports person so that kind of covers it.

stay safe. I would sell personally. Give me a place anywhere near the Rockies instead..

BC interior, or parts of, are being climate exposed right now. Other places already had been for a longtime. For instance years ago Radium Hot Springs had an exodus. People just tired of the heat and dry conditions. People used to like that kind of thing but not so much anymore.

You'd think so, but that's not the case around here. Housing market in our area here is going crazy, highest resale prices ever. Last year at this time there were about 20 homes for sale in our area, and they were all sold in a couple of months. Think there is currently one home for sale in our area of about 400 homes. We've been thinking of selling for a while now, and this may push us to finally pull the plug. Time to look for something closer to home. Think we've had 2 days in the last seven weeks that have been below the normal high for the day. Other than that, every day in the 30's. Used to love that temp, but not anymore. Supposed to finally get some rain tonight, would be the first drop since we've been here.

3 months in a row that the median home sale price here is over $1,000,000. The market is ridiculous. Definitely a sellers market.

I'm growing heirloom (Beefsteak) from seeds I got from some tomato's my Father in Law dropped off for me last year. I totally accept and agree with the non pruning method but for me it's more to do with space and growing season limits. I don't have the space for 3 or 4 beefsteaks to fully grow out (2' x 5' and 2' x 7' areas). I've tried to in the past and it just gets ugly. Here's a pic of 3 beefsteaks at this point that have been trimmed to 3 or 4 stalks each. Suckers are 5'8" at this point. Roma's on the other side are the same lol. Napa Grape with those ones is almost at 7' FFS.

Note the curling from the heat.

I bet those taste way better than bland supermarket ones…I can’t believe some peeps hate tomatos

Yep. I got a variety of tomatoes. dogs breakfast in there. 3 types of smaller tomatoes, 3 type of larger including san marzano and Pomodori tomatoes. I like using them in sauces and dishes. Others just for salads, eating raw.

Even my Cucumbers, so much more taste than store bought.

Some updates, my Hungarian wax wing tomatoes are going crazy good this year.

Peas are doing best ever, and I have two locations, one in more of a shade location and I suspected they would prfer that. Also that I staked them and support them with long bungee cords which I just elevate as the plants grow. The pea plants really like this and as a result are pumping peas out for months. I've nver seen this before. Usually our pea's are limited time producing. These plants are thriving, thick and tall.

Grapes like crazy, bunches. Already some ripe. (Valiant species, red -blue grape)

Basically everything this year was among best ever production. We got one freezer loaded already and working on second one. We're self sufficient with most veggies. Still finishing up last years swiss chard, carrots, beans, beets etc. We've reached the kind of self sufficiency I wanted, really easy to do.

As well as tomato salad, bruschetta, fried green, hand outs to family and friends etc. Most of them are cut and processed for the freezer for winter pasta sauce though.

Gonna make some more kick ass sauces from all our tomatoes, herbs, onions and our great Hungarian peppers. Just loving those in any dish. Makes anything pop. Adds a nice spice, not just heat, lots of flavor. Combined with spanish onions, garlic chives, basil etc we're doing pretty good sauces. helps that some of my tomatoes are italian breeds. I just freeze the sauce in containers. Seems to work well. Some people can the sauces but I've had some bad experience with that and I don't trust my canning. heh

My daughter's friends were over last week and they "thought" that they didn't like tomatoes. Little did they realize the difference between the watery, unfinished, meatless store bought ones and these beasts. Going to be saving a few seeds from these guys again this year. They're the real deal. Italian born and bred.

My daughter's friends were over last week and they "thought" that they didn't like tomatoes. Little did they realize the difference between the watery, unfinished, meatless store bought ones and these beasts. Going to be saving a few seeds from these guys again this year. They're the real deal. Italian born and bred.

Except Tomatoes are native to South and Central America ;)
