In what world would Fowler ever get $3 million? No matter what your opinion of him is, that’s completely unrealistic. Any model that implies that is what he should be making is out to lunch.

Came to post this exact comment lol

If we are going to bring back the same underwhelming forward group I really hope we give Getzy at least one good linemate to go out with.

MC Zegras Terry
Henrique Getzlaf Rakell
Steel/Jones Lundestrom Silfverberg
Steel/Jones Grant Volkov

There's definitely a few blind spots with his model. The glaring one to me is Shattenkirk's contract rates as the best among our defense. Fowler might be overpaid, but I'd take his deal over Shattenkirk's every single time.

I'm not coming down on one side or the other, but Shattenkirk's advanced metrics always seem way better than the fans' opinion of him.

Jesus Christ I knew our forward group was terrible but I never really thought about it. One thing the ducks really need to do is get a different guy when it comes to picking forward prospects and a different group when it comes to developing them

I would give Volkov a shot in a producing role. He scored 8 points in the 18 games he played for Anaheim. I know that the sample size isn't amazing, but he had 6th best PPG. I think he has some untapped offensive potential.

Would be a shame for him to request a trade to get more ice time only to lose out on the Cup and still play 4th line minutes on this garbage team.

I've seen some speculate that's due to how he's used. Sheltered 5-on-5 with loads of PP time. Dom's model takes player history into account (though I'm not sure to what degree) and I'm assuming that's part of the reason why his projected metrics are where they are.

I'll come down on one side. He stinks.

It's not just models like that, it's often just simple 5 on 5 possession metrics for last year, all were pretty decent.

He can make some amazing plays at the offensive end, but he makes some appallingly poor decisions and low effort plays on the defensive end. On THIS team, I don’t think that the offensive players exist to take advantage of his offensive ability to offset his liabilities. It also looked like he lacked the endurance to play anywhere near the amount of minutes he was given.

Good or bad
Call me optimistic but there’s no way (baring injuries) that this team won’t be in the playoffs. We have 2 potential implodes in the oilers and Canucks and we have 2 teams who are beginning their rebuild in the sharks and flames, the knights will be old, our biggest nemesis is going to be the kings (again), Seattle is the wild card I have no idea what they’re gonna look like but things are looking up for the ducks, I think if they have 2 more above average drafts they can be championship contenders again by that period, the rags, kings, sens, canes, ducks, yotes will be the best teams , screen cap this if you want

As far as that second line, I like the idea. But I wonder if the line might work better as...

Rakell Henrique Getzlaf

It would put Rakell on the wing he's had the most success with and also give Getz a little less ice to skate. Do you think Getz on the wing would work?

I don’t see why it wouldn’t. I can’t recall many players who can’t transition from C to W, normally they issue is trying to go from W to C.

Getzlaf at the Wing would allow to receive passes and shoot more, especially that one timer. Perhaps helps him have a bounce back season.

For those who don’t subscribe to THG -He’s not an insider or anything, just a fan of the Game who does a nice job of keeping up with the NHL and puts out a fair amount of content, which is nice during the off-season. I thought you folks might enjoy this Season preview for the Team.

too bad THG is such a bore.
