It was mentioned that the Americans don't have the confidence in the 18 yard box they they had for plenty of years.

Now, Sweden or Australia? Who would you like?

Happy for our girls .Outplayed in the later half by quite a margin but glad they held on to win. The woman commentator on CBC was super annoying though with her bias toward our team and was arrogant about it. The British male commentator, Nigel, called the game fairly and believe he was also annoyed with her. Anyway, the result was the most important thing.

I really want to like women's soccer but man is it hard.

Anyway go Sweden, lets get this berth to the finals and crush those Canadians ;)

Sweet, sweet, sweet.

I can't think of a bunch that I am happier to see lose than the USA women's soccer team--should have left all the politics at home and concentrated on why they came to Tokyo in the first place. People have had enough of this stuff.

In reading some of the American threads it is absolutely unbelievable how many of our friends to the South were actually cheering for Canada. Strange days indeed for the the good old USA.

Here is a post from a lady in California and there were many other comments just like it:

"The entire US soccer team deserves to suffer. It is a team sport and as a collective group the Captain is the spokesperson. Maybe teams should choose their captains more prudently and not be intimated into following their ideologies. CONGRATULATION CANADA!"

Been following Christine Sinclairs heroic career since she was playing unders. What a brilliant career she has had. Glad to have watched last nights game in entirety. I didn't see much of the Brazil game and lost some hope after the Japan game. The ladies gutted it out but its so ironic that the Canadian team never reached this lofty gold medal game perch with Sinclair in prime. Now that Sinclair is a shadow of her former self they get the chance at gold. Nobody in womens soccer deserves a gold more than Sinclair, but this W was due to the whole team, and Labbe who has been so solid in net.

Awesome stuff by our ladies in soccer!!

Can finally stop thinking about that London debacle every time Olympic soccer is happening.

I'll never stop thinking about it due to how complete robbed Canada was in that game. Also with Sinclair scoring a hat trick in one of the greatest womens sporting performances ever, any sport. Inept, intimidated officiating took a golden performance and turned it bronze. Never seen a more despicable instance of a game ruined by officiating.

This one gives us a bit back, but its not the same as the 2012 ludicrous calls. This call last night was at least VAR, and it was actually a legit call that could plausibly be made. The US got a call that had occurred once before in 50yrs.

What a cow.

"It sucks," said US forward Megan Rapinoe after Monday's defeat. "Obviously, you never want to lose. You never want to lose in a world championship, you never want to lose to Canada, obviously, and you never want to lose playing the way we did.
"Every player in the locker room has 100 things that we would all want to do better and that's the most frustrating thing for all of us. It's sad because these things only come around every so often. It's a tough one to swallow."

This is a side comment but its amazing how much deference there is to the USWT anytime they have an injured player on the pitch. When a US player is hurt on the pitch everything stops, game stops, officials stop play. When a Canadian defender is down hurt play continues even though a US chance ensues. What a debacle.

Have to say as well the Naeher preceding was ridiculous. 10min delay of game while they are trying to determine if she can go and clearly she can't. The officials allowing all this and all this time for Naeher to make a decision. She clearly makes the wrong one, continues to play, and then pulls herself out 10mins later the first time she has to kick a ball and her knee buckles. But that was sham worthy on the part of the training staff and everybody. She was not able to go, that determination should be made by the medical staff, and a determination at some point should be made by the officials to stop f***ing delaying the game. That injury was also at a time where Canada was dominating the game and getting a lot of useful pushes forward. The long delay and injury allowed the US to settle into the match. They had looked jumpy for 20mins.

Did anybody notice the US tried the count thing again in the 2nd half? They did it twice and also screaming at the officials several times for getting the play going again. Such f***ing hypocrites.
