I'll never stop thinking about it due to how complete robbed Canada was in that game. Also with Sinclair scoring a hat trick in one of the greatest womens sporting performances ever, any sport. Inept, intimidated officiating took a golden performance and turned it bronze. Never seen a more despicable instance of a game ruined by officiating.

This one gives us a bit back, but its not the same as the 2012 ludicrous calls. This call last night was at least VAR, and it was actually a legit call that could plausibly be made. The US got a call that had occurred once before in 50yrs.
That penalty I think is a 50/50 call. Really just depends on ref. Definitely no where close to the bs of 2012. That was just shameful.

It's amazing that Christine Sinclair will get a chance to play for a gold medal. I honestly never thought I'd see the day. She's one of the finest athletes this country has ever seen. What an amazing way to finish her career.

It was a clear and obvious foul, even if it was a pretty unfortunate situation for the US defender. There's no other correct interpretation of that play other than a foul (and that goes for any league or tournament, men's or women's).

Terrible game, overall, but as the underdog you take it. The Canadians defended well and their front 2 pressed well. Their midfield play was pretty poor outside of Scott's defensive play and Fleming (Sinclair was a liability), but the US weren't good, either. The Canadians defend well enough to have a shot in the final. It's international football, so there's nothing wrong defending well and waiting for some luck. It won Greece a European Championship, after all.

I'd start Grosso over Quinn in the final. Quinn's been pretty shaky in the midfield, probably the weakest link there, misplaying balls, missing easy interceptions, and giving away the ball at the slightest hint of pressure.

Been following Christine Sinclairs heroic career since she was playing unders. What a brilliant career she has had. Glad to have watched last nights game in entirety. I didn't see much of the Brazil game and lost some hope after the Japan game. The ladies gutted it out but its so ironic that the Canadian team never reached this lofty gold medal game perch with Sinclair in prime. Now that Sinclair is a shadow of her former self they get the chance at gold. Nobody in womens soccer deserves a gold more than Sinclair, but this W was due to the whole team, and Labbe who has been so solid in net.
We’re seeing that old cliche “defense wins championships” playing out again with this team. Offensively, they are a shadow of what they were at their peak but their back end has never played better.

I’m like you, I’ve been following Sinclair since that 2002 tournament here in Edmonton. I’d never watched a women’s game before that but there was something about that team that captured people’s hearts. It’s a shame what happened in London. IMO, that was when this team was at its best and should have won gold. I’m happy they’re getting their shot now even if it’s with a somewhat rebuilding team.

I thought Quinn had a strong first half against Brazil, but yeah, very shaky since then. Grosso brings more athleticism and can transport the ball better.

They'll never do it, but I wouldn't start Sinclair. Prince (and Rose when she came in) and to a lesser extent Beckie have been great pressing up the field and tracking back by putting back pressure on the midfield, but a lot of their pressing goes for naught when Sinclair isn't doing anything off the ball. If she was great on the ball, that would be one thing, but she really hasn't been. You can only afford players to have a free role like that with little defensive contribution if they're a dominant creative force but Sinclair simply isn't that anymore. I'd play a 4231 with Huitema as the 9 and Fleming as the 10 (with a double pivot of Scott and Grosso).

Also a shame that Karla Lang had her career cut so short due to a series of serious knee injuries. Christine and Kara show was something to behold. I had all game tickets to several of the womens and mens tournaments here through the decades. Fell in love with that team in 2002. I think I've attended way more Soccer games than football games in this century so far. The Mens unders tournaments were something else as well, except Canada wasn't so good.

On twitter its sheer luck that Canada won yesterday, and all the "haven't beat us in 20yrs comments" and yet Canada legit beat US, also, in the 2012 Olympics but were completely jobbed out of that result. In anycase Canada has hung with the US in major tournaments such as the Olympics and may well be passing their program.

So lets see. 2012 Team Canada was robbed in the Olympics having the lead right into injury time and with that TERRIBLE ball handling call handed to the US, followed by a Penalty Kick right after to help US send the game to OT. Without which we would win.

2016 US team flamed out of the Olympics.

2021 Olympics we beat the US .

Nothing to see here folks, total mirage.

Fluke Canada, we're lucky to even be a country...;)

Give and take. Sinclair has obviously declined in terms of ball skills and movement, but she’s probably the most composed one out of her, Prince and Rose. The other two just panic with the ball at their feet.

Huitema is obviously the future, she just needs more experience and she’ll be very good with her combination of height, speed and ball skills.

Beckie is likely the most influential outfield player on the team right now, I feel like she’s being underused by Priestman in the formation.

Gilles has been the biggest surprise and probably one of the biggest reasons why they’ve made it this far. She’s a huge upgrade over Zadorsky.

As an aside, Brianna Boyd, who was part of the Women's National Team from 2000 to 2003, 43 appearances and scoring twice is my aunt's (deceased) granddaughter. She had to retire due to a severe concussion. Her dad, Barry, was part of the Canadian Track & Field Team.

Depends if they think Sinclair can go 90 or not. She was obviously hobbled by game end and was tender running a few times in the game yesterday. Just age catching up I think. I'd rather have her in 2nd half and OT (if it occurs) than trying to start and then not being able to finish. She's still effective on the ball and continues to strips some balls and make deft passes. But she's having trouble getting into spots where she can be served. Just not very mobile anymore. That said the Corner kicks from Team Canada are abysmal. Not even close to finding her.

Definitely slower at her age now. But I think I’d rather start Sinclair and have the speed of Rose off the bench running against tired defenders.

Gilles has been excellent. Pretty shaky on the ball, but she's been great defensively.

I don't disagree that Sinclair is still clearly the best finisher and probably the most composed on the ball out of the attacking players available (although I think Fleming can carry out a similar role just as well while also doing the running that Sinclair simply cannot do anymore), but I think they're best served playing defensively compact and looking for small opportunities to punish Swedish mistakes. Tweaking the system a little and bringing in Huitema (mostly just to run, I'm not expecting much else from her) as a 9 while bumping Fleming to a 10 spot in a 4231 probably serves that better (in the 2nd half they basically collapsed to this with Sinclair as the 9 after the pen). Maybe I'm being overly cynical about their chances playing anything other than negative football against Sweden.
