Did I see Tyler Johnson (TB) on waivers? Does AZ have any interest there?

It is very likely a move from Tampa to help with the cap before opening day as they know he won't be claimed. He won't be able to play the first game of the season as a consequence, but with Kucherov out for the regular season, he will have a chance at better minutes there this year.

I loved Yandle when he was here, but he's been gone for like six years. He is not the player he once was, same as Kessel, but I think we are better off without him moving forward and see what happens in the off season. Also, that contract is not good, but I guess that could be worked out. Does any one know his plans after he is done playing?
We wouldn't be asking Yandle to be the same player he was. He would be on the third line behind OEL and Chychrun. Also on PP1. OEL and Chychrun are also our only top 6 D signed for next year.

His contract isn't great but isn't as bad as it looks. Money owed is less than his caphit. I don't see us being a cap team so it's not the end of the world. Get an add for taking him and I'm happy.

We are in a position where we are just hoping that Phil Kessel can at least be a powerplay specialist that requires heavily sheltered 5v5 minutes. We aren't even sure we'll even get that out of him. If we traded him for Yandle, I'd just be hoping that Yandle can at least be a powerplay specialist that gets limited, 3rd pairing 5v5 minutes.

Personally, I'd rather gamble on Yandle. Lower upside but better odds of hitting it. Also, much lower downside. Kessel's relationship with Tocchet is an absolute liability and has serious potential for cultural poison. If Kessel was performing, it wouldn't be a big deal. But with how badly he's played, it's making things too complicated for my liking. He deserved to be scratched last season and he wasn't. That's a problem that's bigger than just Phil. That's a problem for the whole squad.

To me, Yandle getting sheltered 5v5 mins and helping spark some OEL creativity and production on PP1 feels a lot more drama-free.

Kessel's deal is cheaper this season, and he's got one less year, and if he did rebound (loooooong shot) he's a way more valuable player than Yandle. So I can understand people preferring to stick with the devil they know and keep Kessel. That's a fine perspective. Personally, I'd make the swap if I could, though.

Why can't the analysts talk directly to the coaches?

From 31 Thoughts:
“Ottawa’s top six looks nice with Brady TkachukJosh NorrisDrake Batherson, and Tim StuetzleDerek StepanEvgenii Dadonov. Those two lines played together during the team scrimmage Monday night. Logan Brownwas dressed for the opposing team, and there are rumours of his availability. But the Senators have said they still believe in his talent.”

Logan Brown should be interesting for Arizona. He’s Chychrun’s best friend and grew up in Missouri with the likes of Keller and Fischer. His Dad Jeff was/is active in the St Louis hockey community and is likely well-known to Bill Armstrong.

It would have been nice to expand the Stepan deal in a way that could have included Brown rather than the pick. I could see the the Coyotes being in on this if it becomes a real thing, though.

You are making good points, but I think for us it's better to move forward from players and Kessel because of age.

I am in favour of acquiring Brown. Asking price?

Wonder if Cappo and a 3rd could do it. Don't want to hand out 2nd's right now if we don't need to.
I hear ya. I figure they'll expect less for him than we did for Dylan Strome but probably more than Capobianco and a 3rd. I'm trying to think of good comps. Maybe Anthony DeAngelo? Went 19th overall in 2014 and was traded at the 2016 draft for the 37th overall?

Who knows? They definitely don't need any more forwards, that's for sure. How about Oesterle and our 2nd? Then we can do Kessel for Yandle. ;)
Oesterle, Kessel and Fischer are all players RT likes. RT will praise them till the cows come home.

Does like RT like Fischer? He was scratched for like half of last season.
I doubt even Fischer likes himself after the MacKinnon incident. Dude probably hasn't looked in the mirror since. After witnessing Corey Perry completely de-man Louis Domingue and ruin his entire career in one moment, Fischer suffered the same fate several years later against MacKinnon. There are certain moments that really define an era for a team. These two moments are a pretty apt summary of the Rick Tocchet era. Or maybe a serve as good book-end moments for the Chayka era.

Where does Brown fit in our lineup? I know he’s a centre and he’s big but he has accomplished little since being drafted. I mean, he can’t even make the Senators.
