I haven't seen Quinn other than some highlight videos. What are the knocks on him?
Speed is just OK. I've seen some good bursts from him but he seems to struggle to do it consistently. He thrives in front of the net but he might have some issue staying there consistently at the next level. Not much of a playmaker either, but that can be overlooked a bit with the elite shot. He's also among the oldest in the draft class.

What Musto said, but also he plays on the same team with Rossi (though on different lines), and his previous seasons were nothing to get excited about. He didn't start taking exercising and diet seriously until he was 15-16ish, so some feel his earlier seasons lack of success (success akin to a future top 15 pick) was due to his poor conditioning. Now he's been working with the same guy Giroux goes to and he's gotten a hell of a lot faster and stronger out there.

Bob McKenzie tweeted today saying that there could be two draft lotteries. One for the teams eliminated from the playoffs and one for the teams that lose the play-in round. It’s all speculation but the big thing was that no team could make the final-16 and be part of the draft lottery. Could be very interesting if this ends up happening. It sounds a lot better than the previous set-up they were throwing around.

So in other words,

The speculated June 26th lottery would be the first lottery. It would only include the bottom 7 teams that are not in playoffs. Detroit, Ottawa, Ottawa (via SJ), LA, Anaheim, NJ, Buffalo. Picks 1-7.

Then they would do the play-in round of games (July?).

The 8 that are eliminated would be put into the second lottery. Picks 8-15.

Then 16-31 would be determined by playoff record.

(draft occurs in August?)

So we could very well be parting ways with our 9th overall pick.

Yea the whole we are in a win win situation takes should pretty much be dead if this turns out to be the case. We could get blown out in the play in series and fail to win a game and potentially pick 15th...yuck

Not sure if he meant it like that or if the teams that lose the play-in round have a chance at Lafreniere still. It’s a way so that the 1-7 teams have their picks locked in before the play-in round. That much is clear. How exciting would it be if it was the latter and we found out that none of the 1-7 teams won 1st overall?

So win-win situation for Chicago.

If they lose against Edmonton, they go back to the way everything was supposed to be originally. 9th overall and in the lottery.

If they beat Edmonton, they get much needed playoff experience.

So the worst they could do is if both the Hawks and Habs win their play in series. Then they end up 17th, unless somehow they go on a run and beat either St. Louis or Colorado.

A note:
They're going to conduct the lottery as normal. there will be unassigned picks from 8-15. If a team in slot 8-15 gets a top 3 pick, there will be a second lottery after the play-in round to determine which team will pick in the unassigned slot.

So should the Hawks lose to the Oilers, and an unassigned team picks top 3, the Hawks would have the second best odds to win that pick.

He's one of the older players in the draft, so some are skeptical. But his shot and skating are above average. Really no knocks against him offensively - like most young players though he could improve his defensive awareness and consistency.

Why even have two phases? Just have the lottery after the play ins are over.

I get why they're doing it this way. Some of the play-in teams would have made the playoffs anyway, so this is their consolation for having the play-in round. Most likely, the Hawks will pick 9th or 10th should they lose to the Oilers. No biggie. Ask yourself if embarrassing the Oilers is worth losing 6-7 spots though. If the Hawks jump up again....holy crap. Imagine if #1 goes to an unassigned team. I think it would be counterproductive. You could have teams actively trying to lose for a 12.5% chance at Lafreniere. Would be a nightmare.

Professional athletes aren’t going to do this. Lol

I also don’t see what half your post has to do with having 1 lottery after all odds will be finalized. It’s like having a lottery at 77 games and then after 82 games. I just don’t see the point.

We would not pick 15th if we lose in the play-in series. We would pick 8 or 9 (at worst and possibly a top 3 pick) depending on whether Montreal lost as well. If we make the Round of 16/first round of the playoffs and lose we would pick no worse than 17 or 18 if Montreal makes the playoffs.

I wish we could double dip and make the playoffs and pick 8 or 9 but that doesn't sound like it will happen. Look at it this way, if we beat Edmonton it becomes the equivalent of making a late run and nabbing a wild card spot which was unlikely but not outside of the realm of possibility. If we had won some games in March we would not have picked 8/9 but lower.
