That’s some pretty good company.
I was curious how many of these were their D+1 and it turns out that its most of them.
Name on List, What year the points were from, what they were doing the next season
Eichel, D+0, NHL 56 points
Connor, D+1, AHL 44 points + NHL 5 points
Gaudreau, D+2, NHL 64 points
Schwartz, D+1, NCAA 41 points
Keller, D+1, NHL 65 points
Boeser, D+1, NCAA 34 points + NHL 5 points
Toews, D+1, NHL 54 points
Gaudreau, D+1, NCAA 80 points
Larkin, D+1, NHL 45 points
Nyquist, D+2, NCAA 51 poitns
Schroeder, D+0, NCAA 28 points
Gerbe, D+3, AHL 56 points + NHL 1 point
I stopped at Gerbe as it started to be pretty different players. So of the guys that did this D+1 (7 of them), the next year they were:
- Connor was tearing up the AHL and had a successful NHL cup of coffee
- Schwartz went back the NCAA and had another monster year
- Keller had a very good NHL deput
- Boeser went back to college and scored lots, then got a good start on his NHL career
- Toews was already great in the NHL
- Gaudreau went back to college and had an ever bigger year
- Larkin had an extremely successful start to his NHL career
3 had good NHL seasons, 2 split the year between the AHL/NCAA and NHL cup of coffee, and 2 went back to the NCAA. I think it is worth pointing out that the 2 that went back for full seasons of the NCAA were both smaller players in Schwartz and Gaudreau. I really can't see Holloway going back to the NCAA next year if he keeps up anything close to this pace the rest of the year. He'll be in the AHL at the very least, and it wouldn't *shock* me to see him play games with the Oilers. He already has NHL size and speed, so that part won't be a problem. He'll also be 20 years old at the start of the NHL season next year, so it's not like he'd be an 18 year old, and it's not that uncommon for D+2 players to see NHL action.
