The part where they mention Kakko could be a center.

I personally think Jack is in another tier but if Shero doesnt and he thinks Kakko can play center.... how dont you take the bigger player?

Im still like 98% sure we take Jack but that sliver of doubt is growing as we inch closer. Im also one who worries about the worst sometimes lol

Even if both are centers, Hughes is the superior player.

If Leason falls to 34 do the Devils select him and being an overager does he have a better chance making the team?

Same can be asked of Fagemo later in the 2nd/3rd.

Position of need, solid scoring ability, and overagers.
At the very least Leason is a guy you can play in the AHL, and then call up whenever.

But yeah, as a 6'4" 200 lb twenty year old, I'd say he definitely has a better chance of making the team then just about anyone else we would draft in that spot.

Seems like most mock drafts have Chicago and Colorado picking forwards at #3/#4 (more need based) and Byram then the unanimous pick at #5 for the Kings. Assuming Turcotte goes to Chicago, I could certainly see Colorado and Detroit swapping picks - Detroit jumps ahead of LA to nab a franchise defenseman in Byram, while Colorado still gets one of Cozens, Dach or Zegras. Just seems to make sense versus allowing the likely 3rd best player in the draft to drop down to 5th.

I’m curious what you draft aficionados think about Nils Hoglander. I just read an article by Todd Cordell in which he sings this kid’s praises and advocates for him being the selection at 34. Thank you in advance for your thoughts!!

I think he is seen similarly to how Jesper Boqvist was in his draft year. Great offensive skill, hasnt played in NA so that hurts him and his overall game needs some work. Also a smaller player, similar size to our other Jesper. A player that has 1st round talent that may creep into the second as Boqvist did.

Ive been overseas since early June. Very interested in Filip Rasmussen (younger brother of Filo, a 2013 bust) as a sleeper pick in the 4th or 5th round. Devils scouts are also raving about the plethora of Russian prospects.

Just noticed that while the Draft will be aired on NBCSN / NHL Network, that will only be for the 1st round.

The 2nd round onward this Saturday will be aired *ONLY* on NHL Network (which I don't have). What a bunch of bull.

Turcotte going to Chicago is a very strong possibility. My toughest ranking in this entire draft was Byram or Turcotte at#3. They are both just incredible hockey players.

If the Blackhawks opt for Turcotte, the #4 slot (Colorado) gets extremely interesting. You are absolutely correct that teams like Detroit and Vancouver would be knocking down the door to bet getting Byram at the #4 slot. I would not be surprised if the Kings traded up one spot (!) to assure they get Byram. Somehow coming away from the 2019 draft with Bowen Byram is just the best case scenario in every sense for Los Angeles.

Maybe we'll just trade Hall for the 4th. :sarcasm:

I think the Hawks will take Turcotte. Local kid and all. Byram will make them think for sure though.

The 2nd day of the draft is always streamed online for free usually

Hopefully there will be.

The only stream they currently have for NHL Network there right now is about as "stable" as Chiarelli's brain : It more often than not doesn't work.:laugh::laugh::laugh:

You'll be alright, kid. There will be plenty of streams on Reddit. You probably won't even have to search for it.

I've talked about Hoglander a ton lately. He's one of a trio of undersized LWs with top-line NHL skill and upside, along with Nick Robertson and Jakob Pelletier. Out of the three of them, Robertson has the best hands and goal-scoring ability, Hoglander has the most speed and best vision, and Pelletier offers the most well-rounded game.

I think all three are a good bet to go in the 25-45 range. I think Robertson goes first out of the three; his hands are just unreal and he can shoot the lights out. I would rank Robertson's hands as fourth-best in this draft after Hughes/Zegras/Kakko. But Hoglander's top-tier skating ability and vision are certainly an impressive combination, the kid can really drive play. He's a lot of fun to watch, and he's also very tough for a 5'9 player. Hoglander is not afraid to play in the dirty areas and throw hits on far bigger players.

I think most Devils fans would prefer a defenseman at #34, but guys like Hoglander, Robertson and Pelletier are certainly in tune with previous draft picks made by NJ in the Ray Shero/Paul Castron era. Still, the Devils are flush throughout the organization with undersized, scoring LWs -- Boqvist, Bratt top that list, but there are a few more on the way. So, I would not bet the farm on the Devils taking Hoglander -- I think it would be more likely that the Devils take a bigger organizational need of a defenseman like Bjornfot or Thomson; or a power forward like Beecher or Afanasyev.
