As much as I want the other Hughes this is unlikely a bottom 5 team we have here this year. It might not be a playoff team but a team on the rise.

Frankly, I'm starting to feel like we have just as much of a chance to win it if we finished 17th in the league as we do if we finish 31st. Getting burned year after year at the lottery is a new, fun way of being kicked in the jewels as a fan of this team.

That's not how math works, but I get what you're saying. I'd still prefer the Canucks have the best chance at winning the 1st overall pick, in addition, being set-up at the top of each round beyond that.

The Canucks could be in a weird space in this draft. They could drop down to the 10th pick given their current points percentage. That takes them out of the running for the 1st tier names like Hughes, Kakko, Dach, Cozens, Byram and even Turcotte. However, names like Zegras and Suzuki are still possible.

My hope in this draft is that whomever they should take, it should be the most apparently skilled player left on the board. Zegras and Suzuki offer that potential. Given their recent history with Pettersson and Hughes, I think that's a good bet. Fingers crossed.

There’s 2 Russian kids that are pretty good too. Wouldn’t mind either of em at #10

Yeah, people underestimate how important getting the 32-35 pick is in the draft. You can get some real good players there, for example Demko. It also basically means you get the runt of the litter from the last round.

Some have asked how Brett Leason's production compares to other 3rd-time-eligibles playing in the CHL. This is for the last dozen or so drafts:

He is the 13th forward on this year's edition of team Canada; a pretty decent achievement for a twice undrafted forward.

Weirdly, this pick range has massively underperformed historically.

Cause from pick 25-60 it's essentially all the same tier of player in most drafts. You have the same odds of picking an NHL player at 32 vs 52. But people just take the guy who falls the most instead of properly doing their homework on a player.

Cam York role is filled by Hughes. It's like having two Keith yandles. I mean im not jumping for joy if we took him. Obviously our D prospects suck but there are better options if there isn't a BPA. I just prefer a D like Byram. Don't get the point twisted..

"Two Keith Yandles would be bad."

Just so strange.

Some people are projecting Hughes to already be our saviour on defense. So...why would you not want TWO Quinn Hughes?

For my money, Cam York is the best defenseman of the draft.

Yeah they traded a B prospect for the best defender in the NHL, wow!!!
Who's the 'B' prospect? I'd say the got two pretty good young centers for one season and two playoffs of Karlsson. If they sign him then, yes, it's obviously a win for them. But they gave up two pretty good young players. I guess time will tell.

It’s Erik Karlsson dude there’s a reason the entire hockey world absolutely berated the Sens for making that deal.

It was an absolute steal for the Sharks no matter what happens come on now.

K, why is Hughes not being doubted anywhere near as much as Pettersson was, when he is even smaller? He's listed as 157 pounds! :help:
