He isn’t hurt. You can’t just put guys on LTIR for no reason. Plus we aren’t a cap team. Those cap savings only kick in once you go over the cap.

So he injured his hip, had surgery, and since then he can't stop 90% of the shots he sees in the AHL? He obviously never recovered and there's no doubt in my mind that if he was on the Leafs or Bolts he'd be on the LTIR in a heartbeat. We don't need the relief now, but if we were competitive next year or in 2021 we would have that flexibility. Also, buying him out is going to double the remaining years we have his dead $2 million, so 3 or 4 years from now that $2 million penalty could absolutely hurt us. Big money teams don't deal with any of that. They just LTIR and move on.

Cory having a much better game tonight

Only 4 goals on 23 shots this time.

5 goals on 27 shots.

Pretty safe to say he's probably also the worst goalie in the AHL.

In 10 games this year between the NHL and AHL combined, he has a save percentage of .844%. He's beyond toast.

.852% in the NHL, .829% in the AHL. Three games in a row where he's allowed 5 goals in the AHL. Hasn't allowed fewer than 3 goals in any of his starts there this year.

The Devils should do the right thing and buy out Schneider. At this point he’d welcome it. Unusual for an organization to disrespect a former NHL star. He’s being humiliated and the prospects development is being stunted with mounting losses

We can't buy him out until 48 hours after the cup finals end this year, so now earlier than June 15th or so.

With our luck, he'll get recalled in garbage time and the market correction will take fold again, he'll have a .920% over 20 games played and raise his season save percentage up to .905% and management will once again be convinced that he's coming back and it's for real this time.

Got bored and looked up highlights, since there were only 2 NHL games tonight and no highlights to watch of them.

There were a couple of goals Cory definitely had no chance on, but the first goal on him was on the first shot of the game he faced and it was on a weak rebound. I don't know if the rebound went off Owen Tippett's leg after Cory made the first save on him on a weak shot and handed it right back to him, because Cory seemed to go off on the refs after it went in, but nevertheless it was not a great rebound on the first shot. It was a routine shot and he gave it right back to the guy and it either went in off his leg or skate or maybe his stick as he drove to the net. Figured it did go off his skate or leg because of the way Cory reacted to the official after the goal was scored. The initial shot probably should have been swallowed.

Goal 4 (the eventual game winner) the guy knifes through the two defenders and sends a pretty stoppable wrist shot right through Cory's legs that were open so wide that you could have driven the team bus through his 5-hole. That was a killer goal in what was then a 3-2 game in the 3rd period.

Disrespect him? His play warranted his demotion.

If he feels his play is at the point where he feels humiliated then he should just retire. I don't know the cap ramifications from a Devils stand point, but I'm sure he doesn't want to give up the $12 million or whatever he still has coming to him.

He’s no longer capable of helping the Devils Win at the NHL or AHL level. Due to an injury and age. He’s not the only former star who’s game ran dry before their contract expired. Typically former stars are bought out to avoid humiliation for the player. This past season at least 2 former stars were bought-Perry and Marleau. Due to contract size both would likely have passed through waivers and be playing out their careers in the minors if they weren’t bought out. The Islanders bit the bullet with DiPietro.

Schneider is far worse at his position than Perry and Marleau were at theirs when they were bought out.

Schneider is pretty much DiPietro at the end. Only he isn’t getting injured every month like DiPietro was for the last 5 years of his career.

Just got here. Does anyone know if Schneider is starting?
Probably not.

They seem to only play him during a set of back to backs and he got his game last night.

They didn’t even play him on Wednesday when they had a random mid-week game with no back to back.

Although he could be playing if they called up Senn to backup tonight for an injured Domingue. They could have even called up Schneider to back up for Blackwood tonight and flew one of them across country.
