I lost my mind when we picked. I wanted Forsberg so bad I could feel it in my bones. I couldn't believe he was falling to us. And then we took Koekkoek.

But you know what? It could be worse. We could've traded him for Martin Erat. I'd say that's even worse than passing him up in the draft

I believe they really wanted Trouba but he was picked right before. Maybe that's to blame for the bad judgement of the pick.

Seriously. Every scouting report I read at the the time essentially said the same thing about Koekoek, which was that he had the soft hands and mobility necessary to develop into an elite giraffe whisperer one day. It was an obvious pick.
