Gio Gonzalez has 1 QS in the last month. Why isn't he as good as he used to be?

well there is two answers:
1A) in his last 5 starts, the nats have been shutout 3 times
1B) in the last month nats have been shutout 8 times
1C) nats starting pitching went a month without one of their starters getting a win

2) gio is so up and down. he is a good #4 pitcher but because strasburg is injured and roark cant do anything right now plus the AAA rotating guys, he has so much pressure on him right now and dont think he can handlie it

Should the Cards have kept Carpenter in the game today?

But the Nats offense has nothing to do with a SP getting a QS...so 1A, B, and C aren’t really good answers. You can get a QS regardless how the offense performs.

I think the answer is that he has always been a pretty streaky pitcher and, right now, he is just going through one of his bad stretches.

Right but gio is a mental pitcher. He talks to himself all the time (which Nats broadcasters say is very odd) and cannot recover when he gets into trouble as confidence drops when he walks someone. So the offense does play a factor. You have a pitcher who lacks confidence once he gets into trouble, combine that with the lack of run support and you get gio

David Price wins a 1-0 game.....

This is getting ridiculous. Apparently everything the Red Sox are touching is turning to gold.

Unless Alex Cora is THAT big a managerial upgrade, they probably would still be 69-30 if they retained Farrell.

But would the Red Sox have won a playoff series with Cora?

That remains to be seen. No one could deny Farrell did a good regular season job. Interesting how Red Sox let Farrell go and replaced him with Cora and didn't miss a beat. Meanwhile Dusty was vilified as WOAt, let go, replaced with a manager in Martinez who like Cora had no experience, and the Nats are a game under .500.

Makes you think.
