It appears that Gildon will be joined at Development Camp by his second-half of the year defensive partner at UNH, Anthony Wyse.
Wyse is a senior to be and there was a LOT of talk that he might forgo his final season at UNH and turn pro. He is rumored to have had a few opportunities and I wouldn’t be surprised if FLA was one of them. They would certainly see quite a bit of Wyse while monitoring Gildon. Both regularly pushed 28- to 30-minutes a night for a shallow and often injury depleted UNH blue line...
Wyse is a really big (6-3, 225), but fairly athletic defense first type who makes a good first pass and who’s skating and handling of the puck has consistently improved. He could probably be more of an offensive factor, at the college level, than he chooses to be but he tends to defer that role to others while focusing on being a stopper on his own blue line...
His future as a pro depends entirely on further developments of his skating and whether he uses his size more to his advantage. He’s not super physical nor mean - but that might have more to do with the Oly ice at UNH. While made for a kid like Gildon I’m not sure it does Wyse the same favor.
He’s older (‘96 birth year), but there might be something there and he will certainly get an ELC from someone at the end of next season...
