Mazanec does solve the mystery of spot #5.
I'm admittedly fascinated by this, since it has hamstrung the org for months now - I sure hope it's good
Now what does management do in Utica. Does Ghost Johnson make the decision or does Benning.
Kulbakov - An ECHL player on an AHL contract who has played more games this season than any other Comets goalie.
23 GP/ 76 GA/ 10-8-3-2/ 3.54/ .893
Leighton - On an AHL PTO.
4 GP/ 11 GA/ 3-1-0-0/ 2.76/ .912
Mazanec - Newly acquired by Vancouver and is on an NHL contract.
With Hartford:
20 GP/ 58 GA/ 7-8-4/ 3.01/ .903
We know Mazanec is a fixture whether he plays good or bad. His numbers in Hartford are not all that impressive.
Leighton has seemingly settled in. Has looked shaky at times, but was definitely rusty. He has defeated some good teams. Seems to control his D and communicates with them after whistles as to what he prefers them to do.
Ivan deserves all the credit in the world for what he has done, but he simply gives up too many goals. Now with the offense stripped of 2 of it's top players the D is going to have to be stingier and the keeping has got to be a big part of that.
Personally, if I'm Cull, I want to keep all 3 of them around for a bit so I can assess which 2 give me my best chances. I also need to know if Mazanec automatically becomes #1 or do I have the option to select my own 2 out of the 3.
Right now, I think Ivan goes back to Kalamazoo and I let the other two vets battle it out for the rights to #1 and I don't care if Mazanec is on a Vancouver contract. I know he isn't a prospect and I know he's a UFA that won't be here next year unless they trade Bachman. He's owed nothing and his ice time should, as it should be for the other 2 as well, be based on meritocracy.
