Memphis is struggling mightily to generate revenue last time I checked. They are also the least valuable franchise in the NBA. They are in trouble because their market is tiny and they no longer have an entertaining/competitive team to compensate for it. Fortunately they are the only 'Big 4' sports team in town so they'll survive.

Totally agree that population isn't the only indication of if a market will work, but it is a big indication of if a market will work or not when the population is 6.5 million and you only need a fraction of interested people compared to a much smaller market.

The key word is 'was'. You said it yourself. The NBA would have worked in Toronto eventually NO MATTER WHAT.
Probably, but that situation never had to happen. In large part due to the buzz Carter helped create.

Yeah, Carter really did a lot for the Raptors. Still the Raptors are a great franchise. Would it be fair to assume they've eclipsed the Blue Jays in the Toronto sports landscape?

Right now yes, in large part because they are currently among the elite teams in the NBA. Nationally though I think the Blue Jays are still bigger because Rogers as a national media behemoth has done an incredible job of marketing and positioning them as Canada's team (though the Raps are getting there as well)

no victim complex

just funny how the rest of the league reacts when its the lakers vs. when its other teams
Honestly, with the Chris Paul stuff and this I would be defensive. Can't recall another team having an agreed trade vetoed, nor fined for something every team/players do.

Everyone tampers so it's dumb but I think Magic coming in and doing the whole Magic thing where he's flashing his smile and cracking harmless tampering jokes on Jimmy Kimmel cost them. They were too obvious about it and the smaller market teams clearly didn't see it as being harmless, especially when Pelinka was apparently talking to George's agent behind the scenes.

Magic also just can't help himself. Just look at the most recent comments about Ben Simmons (another Klutch client). He went in front of the media yesterday before a nationally televised game and mentioned how Simmons wants to work out with him and it's up to the Sixers and NBA now. However, Elton Brand comes out today and says that request was made a month ago and they already told Simmons and Pelinka no. This isn't tampering and the Lakers followed all the rules but no one knew about it until Magic intentionally mentioned it to the media and now the Sixers and Simmons will likely have to answer questions about it. You can see why some people get pissed off at them.

It's funny how the league reacts when it's the Bucks compared to other teams. NBA is out to get them.

wow, the league actually issued a tampering fine to a team that isn't the lakers. shocked

although lasry straight up said he hopes AD and other players would want to come to milwaukee. magic simply praised giannis and got hit with a tampering fine. but still, i am shocked the league actually issued a tampering fine to a team that isn't the lakers

Great game between the Raptors and Nets. Kawhi with the game winner with 4 seconds left.

Gasol did everything tonight and was especially good in the 4th quarter. It's fine for now but they'll need to figure the minutes and roles out because Gasol is a much better player than Ibaka.

I'd imagine once Gasol is comfortable with the Raptors playbook he will be in the starting 5 and Ibaka will take over JV's old role of backup C. While Ibaka can also play the 4 at times it's best they just keep him at the 5.

On another note, the Nets were hitting 3s like crazy tonight. They shot 48.8%.
