Good question. I thought it was anything that had to do with finalizing AHL rosters heading into the Calder Cup playoffs.

You had to be on your AHL team's roster by 3 pm eastern time on monday to be eligible to be sent down to the AHL to play in the playoffs...thus why you saw a bunch of paper moves where players were "sent down" before 3 pm and then called back up after 3 pm. The AHL itself also has a trade deadline that is always 1 week after the NHL thus it's this monday at 3 pm eastern time. You have to be traded before that deadline just like in the NHL. This has done way with the whole "Clear Day Roster" BS. That was that back then you had to be on a teams roster at the NHL trade deadline in order to be able to play in the AHL the rest of the season and the playoffs. Teams made a mockery of the roster and circumvented it so often and so bad that the AHL finally realized it was useless. In the NHL teams get 4 recalls the rest of the season...to circumvent that you will see a bunch of teams make recalls under "Emergency Situations" thus also circumventing the 4 recall cap.
