This draft is so interesting.

Laine might not go 2nd, CBJ might not want Pul.

Does WPG take Tkachuk 2nd and CBJ Dubois? Do we have the opportunity to trade up to 4 or 5? That's probably the only situation I feel good about trading up.

Like Chayka I feel the bottom end of the draft is very strong as well, so I'd also love to stockpile more 2nds, we could get some great players out of that, even in the 4th round I could see top 6 talent there.

I feel like this happens every year. The top 3 will go how everyone expects.

I'm going to be on the road all day tomorrow, probably right up until the draft, so I figured I'd post my top 100 now. Thoughts and feedback welcome. As always, this is almost purely a talent evaluation/projection and can't (and thus doesn't) take into account peripheral stuff I'm not privy to. As I've discussed in the past, my rankings are a combination of personal viewings (never in person, but full games as well as highlight packages and iso vids), publicly available scouting reports and rankings, and conversations with scouts et al. Where my rankings deviate from the consensus tends to be more a result of what traits I value and don't value (i.e. personal drafting philosophy) as opposed to a particularly keen eye.

Overall, it's a solid top end, a bit mediocre through the top 15 or so (relative to other drafts), but then fairly deep through the second round. I don't expect to see a lot of superstars emerge from this crop, but there should be an awful lot of effective players. It's a good draft to have four picks in the first two rounds (and an extremely good draft to pick up a few more, if possible).

Moving up 32 spots for moving down 6 spots would be impressive in my view. Especially if we can get 46 for eating Datsyuk. And then move 37 and 46 for another late first. 13+20+21+25(ish) would be very impressive I think. Especially if you want D more than F.

The view of moving up x spots while only moving down a few is impressive, but now you're just merging ideas on the trades to get to 4 first rounders. And again, we don't know that the draft board looks like, so #13 may not be an "impressive" pick, in a way.

I think it would have to involve a player somehow, especially considering that teams are trying to move around pieces to circumvent cap space and expansion draft issues. The good news is that if this offer is impressive and it was turned down, I would expect that if we traded the pick, we would get even more value day of.

IF we move down, I think it will include a pick and a player.

Agreed. Trying to think of what deals make sense.

Still think that we are looking at a player who can fill in on bottom 6 RW. Chiasson and Smith-Pelly are players that come to mind.

The signing of GoGo certainly takes some of the pressure off of signing a D at #7 despite not being BPA. Now there is more freedom to gain assets and draft lower in the order and pick up a D at the proper place in the draft, or just draft Mr. Metrics at 7.

I agree and our most valuable asset is cap space. I could see us trading the pick/ moving up or down, for a player we want that provides cap relief. if it is a player we really want, we could take a cap dump back too.

On Draft Eve, I'll go ahead and add my brief two cents: I'm not a fan of taking any of the "Big 3" defensemen at #7, and although Brown's skillset is tantalizing, unless PLD or Tkachuk drop to #7, I would much rather trade down and see if we can obtain more Top 25 picks in the process.

Ideally, I'd be trying to swap #7 with Carolina's #13 and #21. Then (barring some surprise fall) draft 3/4 of McAvoy, Fabbro, Kunin, and Max Jones .

I agree. Also happy for the pick to be traded for a young D, even a young forward who makes sense now that Gogo has signed.

I'm really meh on any of Juolevi, Sergachev, or Chychrun as Top 10 D picks. Juolevi looks like he has the highest floor with his overall poise and hockey sense but I'm not impressed by his mobility and I don't know if he ultimately has top pairing upside. Sergachev and Chychurn probably have higher upside but their warts really make them boom-or-bust picks. I've been more impressed with what I've observed out of Fabbro and McAvoy.

1. Trade Down
2. Trade Out
3. Trade Up
4. Pick at 7 (PLD/Tkachuk/Brown)

I'm the same. If we stay at 7, give me Sergachev.

Yeah that's who I'm leaning towards wanting at #7, if PLD and Tkachuk don't fall.

Best case scenario for the pick IMO is to trade for Trouba, next would be to move up to 3-5.

I also would like a scenario where the team trades down to 10-12 ish and uses the asset gained to move up from 20 to around 15. Someone good is likely gonna fall to around there. Maybe one of the top 3 dmen, maybe Nylander, Brown, Jost, Keller...Getting two of those would be a big win.

How far do we drop without being afraid of missing out on Jones? 13-15?

I'd be nervous about even dropping that far. He's exactly the sort of player who goes higher than expected on draft day. 13 would probably be my limit if he's who I'm targeting.

Anyone buy draft guides (Black book, Redline, McKeen's, etc.) this year? If so which ones and what's your opinion on them?
