UMD is going to have to replace quite a bit next season.

4 of their top 6 scorers gone (3 seniors + Pionk) and their starting goalie. Looks like they're losing 5 of their starting defensemen, as well (4 seniors + Pionk).

Does Pionk play a similar game to Krug?

that's probably a fair comparison. good skater, shot, vision. he plays with some grit and can come out with the puck in board battles. his spin-o-rama is less perfected than reilly's, but still effective. obviously Krug has excelled at the next level, so that will remain to be seen in pionk's case.

they lost so many defensemen, and two of their top forwards in Iafallo and Toninato..not good. I think they should be able to compete really well in 2-3 years if Anderson and Tufte stay.

Anderson's younger brother (Mikey) is coming in and said to be better than Joey, but he's a defenseman. They also have Perunovich, another D, coming in 2017-18. To highlight forwards coming in they have Nick Swaney(Lakeville South), Koby Bender(Cloquet), and Kobe Roth(Warroad). They'll be fine, just younger. They'll be the Kentucky of college hockey soon.

Edit: Forgot to add Dylan Samberg(Hermantown) defenseman and Noah Cates(Stillwater) forward. And they added a transfer from Alaska, a C, Peter Krieger.

Swaney should be legit. Matt Anderson from Holy Family.

Freshman defenders can always be a wildcard, though.

Yup. Look at the Huskies this year. Talent on D but not much experience. Add in having to replace a goalie and personally I won't be shocked if UMD had a year similar to what we did this year.

Iafallo to the Kings. Nice signing for them.

And of course Pionk has a much better skill set than Christian Folin...does anybody seriously think otherwise? Not sure what the holdup is, but it's a major failure by Fletch if they can't ink him.

Folin was in the NAHL during his 21 yo season. Pionk was the number one defenseman on the second best team in the country, putting up just shy of a ppg.

Matt Dumba has a better skill set than Jonas Brodin, that doesn't make him the better player.

Actually, he doesn't. Brodin is a better skater, for one, and does about everything better when going backwards, including puck handling.

Points are ultimately how they decide hockey games, so my preference would be for the guy who knows how to do that, not toss pucks to the other guys in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

When they are both at their best Dumba is absolutely better because he has the tools (skill set) to be better. I even put in my post that it doesn't make Dumba a better player bro (consistency is a thing), come on.
