I believe it was... 17th + Simmonds or Schenn (depending on what rumor) + Unprotected 1st this year. The real hang up seemed to be that Hextall wanted this years 1st to have top 10 protection.

This could, of course, be all bull crap. But that seemed to be the prevalent rumor.

I haven't seen the Schenn one, I was under the impression it was 17th Simmonds and an unprotected 1st this year. So with foresight it would have been Sanheim, Simmonds and the 7th Overall with a minute possibility at 8th Overall with a 6.5 pct chance of being the #1 overall. Hexy was right to ask for it to be protected, although I doubt we are picking top 10 this year if we have Ekblad on the blueline.

I don't care if the pick was 20th overall this year, I still wouldn't be happy with that trade.

Eh if there was any possibility it could have been B Schenn rather then Simmonds, I would take that in a heartbeat. Ekblad is going to be a Norris caliber defensemen and is already contributing a ton as an 18 y/o. A physical, 2 way monster with a right handed shot. He's a franchise changing D-man.

You swap Simmonds out for Ekblad this year & I think this team is even worse. Florida's defense is much better than our's from top to bottom Ekblad would have likely been playing over his head here & without Simmonds our PP would have taken a big hit.

I agree as my 2nd post in the topic explained...

It's really not even close for me. Say we draft Werenski and it's really a no brainer we kept our pick.

Ekblad's performance as a rookie might be slightly deceiving in terms of future expectations just for the simple fact that he's a much more physically matured and much more of a physical freak of nature then most rookies straight out of the draft.

He very well might be a Norris caliber D at some point, just saying his performance this season might be giving him more hype then warranted. One of the biggest adjustments to the NHL is physical maturity, transitioning from boys/young adult leagues to a man's league. A guy like Ekblad can manage that transition out of the gate a lot easier then, say, a guy like Sanheim who obviously needs to fill out his frame more.

Trade McJesus and Amac to Buffalo for Eichel, Rinehart and 2016 1st

Then trade Rinehart, Grossman and Rinaldo (maybe Pronger too) for OEL

Use my 3 other #1's in 15 and 16 on stone cold scorers, wings preferably, sign a good veteran RHD, trade Streit for a late #1 2016 use for a shut down defender or a physical winger

Hire Providence College's coach

Win several Cups

Haven't thought about it much though

:D

Interesting... Honestly, I really think Eichel isn't too far behind McDavid. It's not a leap ahead by any means IMO.

Hmm, that is interesting indeed. Yes we do have a lot of ammo. My guess would be Marner. Who wouldn't want Claude giroux 2.0. The leafs would be a team that would go for a two for 1. We have holes to fill but they have a lot more holes to fill.
Then if we pull that off, our second rounder would likely be d or goalie.

If I could see the future and absolutely knew that Marner was going to be a Giroux 2.0 then I would immediately do Giroux for Karlsson + ____ .

What are everyone's thoughts on chaz reddekopp from Victoria? One of my best friends and would be ecstatic if we grabbed him in the 3rd or 4th round.

I've never seen him play, but he seems like a big defenseman. It's hard to find anything except for fights from him. He's plays left D, right? That would put him in a hard spot to advance from with Morin, Sanheim and Hagg all playing left D. 21 points in 72 games, 6' 3" 214 lbs. He's ranked 82 in NA skaters and was given a C rating by Central Scouting. Could be an interesting pick.

Yeah could be tough, I haven't seen him play for a while either but it seems like he's a safe dman with no big weakness but also doesn't excel in anything in particular. He can fight though that's for sure I'm trying to convince him to fight ghoul:naughty:

Not 2015 draft related but Auston Matthews tied Patrick Kane's all time record for most points in a single season with the U.S. Development Program. It's important to note the program was playing NAHL back then which is a lesser league than what they play in now (USHL).

He'll likely pass it at this upcoming U18's.

Next year will have a great top 10 that is for sure...

The forward talent next year seems like it could be awesome... though ofc some likely fall or have bad draft years.

Matthews
Puljujarvi
Sokolov
Keller
Benson
Asplund
Jones
Grundstrom
Nylander
Laine
Gauthier
Tkachuk
DeBrincat
Steel
Jost
Brown
Abramov
Fallstrom
Howden

a lot of skill combined with physical talent there. Don't get me wrong... a lot is raw, but next year could be another fantastic draft, though outside of Chychrun I don't think the D is as good as this years.
