We should probably close this one so that we don't have to go to 2 very similar threads....

Scherbak!!!
It's a home run swing (russian factor).

I agree. The Russian factor played a big roll for us getting Nikita Scherbak....I am very happy MB and TT had the balls to select him. I hope the other 20 or so teams before our pick  in years to come :handclap::yo::handclap:

TT & Comp. score a TKO in the 1st round, giving them a breather before re-entering the fray in the 3rd round. Scherbak has top line potential all day long.:handclap:

I know 2015 is stacked but would you trade our 2015 1st for all 3 of Buffalo's 2nd's (31, 39 and 49)? The value chart says that their picks are equivalent to the #18 OA pick, plus Barbashev is a high value pick at #31.

imagine if we got..

31: Barbashev
39: Dougherty/Masin/Pettersson
49: Donato

Would be ecstatic if the Habs got 3 - 2nd's, Barbashev C/LW 31st, Masin LD 39th, Kamenev LW 49th. With a 3rd, a 4th and 2 - 5th's to get some extra size or pure small offence it would be similar in quantity if not talent. That would gain the depth in the system necessary to make trades in a couple of yrs.too.

Would be indeed strong....but 2015 will also be something else.

Just think of this though, Habs didn't seem to encline to go Barbashev. Yes, they wanted to move down probably thinking guys like you mentioned with Masin and Pettersson would be available....but I'm not sure Barbashev would be the aim.

And I can tell you that in 2015...we will hate ourselves to not have a 1st rounder.

Never! Like most teams we're just a bad start, a key injury and a tuning out of our head coach away from being a lottery team.

Look at Ottawa, they gave away the 10th overall, they figured they were a lock for the playoffs, but of course did not make it.

Next year is probably a good year for the Habs not to make the playoffs, the draft payoff could be huge.

I possibly would...according to what Timmins think is left in 2nd round? Looks good to me mainly because of Barbashev, I have him rated near with Schelak, and see slim chance we are top 10 pick next year. But I gamble more than most also. When odds are in my favour. Overall, I see Barbashev, Masin, hopefully a Lemieux better than whomever is on board between 20-30 next year.

2015 1st round pick + Briere for Buffalo's 3 2nd round picks is something I'd do. I might regret it but three birds in the hand is good enough for me.

Again, if the idea is that the Habs had NO intention in keeping the 1st round IF Scherbak was gone, means they have NO interest in Barbashev whatsoever. They had to think that by moving down, there was tons of reasons why he'd go before they talk. We're not talking about a guy that plays far far and away here. Barbashev will be gone in the first 5 picks of this 2nd round anyway.
