I just wanted to add that Sami Khedira was amazing in this game. He was creating stuff all over the place before Germany even scored their first goal. I love that guy's style and was really happy he got a goal after setting up his teammates.

i noticed that, too. i like it when a guy gets rewarded for unselfish team play. not sure that was what ozil was thinking (as he's a pass-first kind of player), but good to see him reward khedira for his earlier set up for kroos.

I'm feeling a little bit sorry for Dante...because it was his first game for the selecao at the WC and then this result.

Yeah, I'm really pissed that I wasn't in Germany for this cup... It's always fun being downtown during or after a world cup game... Especially if the game is like this

Not his fault at all. Keepers are not supposed to stop PK's, his own teammates screwed him by shooting terrible shots.

Aside from MAYBE the last one... none of Argentina's shots were stoppable, regardless of if he guessed the right way.

Spot on.

Unlike in hockey, where the goalie always has a chance to do something on every penalty shot, if a shooter in soccer hits the ball correctly, the keeper has a 0% chance of saving the goal.

They should've saved their 3rd substitution for Tim Krul.

They are a crapshoot - but if you assume a player who kicks with his right foot will go to your right, you guess most of the shots automatically. Same goes for left shots.

Not saying it works every time though.

I don't think you can save a sub in your 2nd straight 120 minute match for a keeper who likely would've gotten the same result as your starter. Krul won the PK shootout last game, but PK's are 99% based on the shooter.

Krul guessed every PK right the last time and is known to be a specialist. Was subbing in Huntelaar really going to inspire the squad?

I missed the full 90 minutes so I can't comment on the game. But having that wild card in net could've saved the Dutch.
