Boy, would it be nice to have a cheap ($2m or less) third line center with size and that can win face offs. Hmm....think there is one on Tampa.

Finally have a top 10 offense and an above average power play. Must get rid of 2nd highest point scoring PP specialist ASAP!

I cannot believe people want to let MSL walk. The guy is better than any other winger we have had since Jagr on the PP

Boyle isn't a 3rd line center. He's not even a 4th line center. He's a 4th line LW who can take faceoffs.

Boyle is not TBL's 3rd line center, and his ice time clearly reflects that.

I wanted to keep him, but Boyle was an offensive black hole whenever he was asked to play 3C. Great 4C, terrible 3C.

Besides taking faceoffs, Boyle SUCKS as a center. It's no coincidence that he played on Moore's wing last year. Boyle is a great checking winger/penalty killer. Taking faceoffs isn't the only skill needed to play center.

EDIT: Honestly, horrible is a tad overstated. But if you want any semblance of offensive output out of your fourth line, however little that may be, you do not want Boyle as your center.

That is so funny, I was thinking about that this morning. BB would have been perfect for the playoff run. Good on draws, pk, toughness(not fighting), great teammate.

Here's a crazy idea.

Let's NOT get involved in the stupid bidding war Vermettes availability will create.

The Rangers do not have a 1st round pick to give up. And if they did, they still should not discard it again. Trading a 1st & second is very steep.

Disagree with this.

There is a time to hold on to draft picks and there is a time where you shouldn't let picks keep you from making moves. It was stupid when the Rangers were tossing around seconds for Antropov and Clowe but this team has a legitimate shot at making a run. Moving cheap roster players is one thing, but they shouldn't let a few draft picks get in the way of making any moves.

Anyway, Bob Mackenzie (who is as tied into these things as anyone) has speculated that the price for Vermette would be a 2nd and a decent prospect. Maybe they can stretch a late first out of someone, but the Rangers have two seconds to move and really, they should both be in play provided that the player coming back is a legitimate upgrade.

I tend to agree but for some reason I am having bad visions of the Rangers getting way to caught up in a bidding war that leads to them moving cheap, young, good/decent roster players

I'm not...

Rental players don't garner that type of return unless you're talking about the elites (Hossa, Kovalchuk, etc.)

Plus the Rangers just do not operate like that

Boyle is barely a 3rd line center. Not to mention there were reports that he didn't want to stay in New York. Cant say I blame him. Beautiful city, beautiful arena, cost of living is 1/2 of what it is in NY and you pay less in taxes? I wouldn't have considered NY either.

unless we intend to go to war with this roster, a guy like vermette would be an ideal rental pickup.

dont forget that a guy like vermette is unique and very versatile. not only is he a selke type shutdown pivot who can play a checking role and skate with pretty much anyone, but he can play up and play an offensive role as a center man or wing. he would become our best f/o guy too. and he provides a measure of insurance cover if an injury occurs.

mckenzie did say what he thought the cost for vermette would be. if its a decent offensive prospect and a 2nd, i do that in a heart beat. we have an abundance of forwards now and not all will play next season. if you can make a deal from a position of strength to improve this team, and add vermette, you do that.

if we are playing well, and peaking at the right time come march, vermette allows us to slide hayes to the wing on line 3 and play him with either miller or hags. that 3rd line, centered by vermette, with either of those guys would be as good as any in the entire league.

defensively i think were solid. look at our goals against the last 20 games. were pretty damn good defensively. i say hold pat there.

i think vermette is moved before feb 1. just my gut.

Calling Vermette a "selke caliber forward" is some terrible overrating of him.

He has the worst GA/60 of any Coyotes forward over 300 minutes played, despite getting the 4th most offensive zone starts on his team.

I think acquiring someone like Mike Santorelli would help out he is decent on draws and we could slide Hayes to a wing position and let him work on draws in the off season

How much of a black hole is he looking like now? And how is Moore's production level?
