Kulemin - Malkin - Iginla would be a damn fine line
Kunitz - Crosby - Honqvist

Ya I can work with that.

and as a note, I hope the lines are less rigid with a new coach. If they cool off, shuffle guys around a bit.

Yep, I would be fine flipping Hornqvist and Iginla as well. Either way, I'd like to push Bennett down to the third line and bring in a legit top six winger by dumping Dupuis. We'll see if Rutherford agrees because I can't see any other option but playing Bennett in the top-six if Dupuis is still here.

ya I agree. We need to move one or both of Scuds and Dupuis if we want to push Bennett down to the 3rd line.

If Dumoulin or Harrington outplay Samuelsson, Samuelsson should be the number 7 as soon as Maatta is back. If both Dumoulin AND Harrington outplay him, then Samuelsson should be the number 7 all year. If he's not our 6th best defender, don't force him into our top 6 D line-up.

Best case would be him outplaying them and holding the spot, treating him as the #7 all season will hurt his development. I guess the other 'best' would be just not having to bring him up.

What's the news on Harrington being NHL ready?

You're right, it would be best if the guy who needs to clear waivers is the best of them. But I think its more likely he's the worst of the three than that he's the best of the three.

Agreed, I'd actually see him under 3.5 mil. I know he didn't have much to work with the majority of the season but Sutter was very underwhelming until march.

I could see him taking a 1 year deal to increase his value (and I think he's a UFA after next year) so he can cash in next year. My ideal situation would be to sign him do a 4 year, $14 million deal ($3.5 million per) right now, but I wouldn't mind a 1 year deal worth less to raise his value and either sign him long term next year or go with Spaling as a 3rd line center.

Iggy isn't worth what he'll get. Guy's slow and not someone who can help carry his line independent of Sid/Geno. I'd spend that money on Hemsky or in a trade.

I'd be fine with Hemsky as well. The best thing with Iginla is that he'll be on a shorter contract. Because after this offseason the top nine is likely to be set for the next 3 seasons depending on the length of Spaling's contract. Which is nice, but I think it would be good to have some flexibility to retool in a few years.

Probably. So hopefully they can avoid bringing him up, I guess. He's probably going to end up being the #7 for better or worse... if they move Scuderi.

Definitely should look to lock in Sutter for at least 3 years, hopefully longer. That way he can always be traded later if a good deal comes along. I definitely don't want to see him walking after next season for nothing.

Yeah I agree. That's what Shero was fired for with Niskanen. He didn't lock him up cheaply soon enough, then Niskanen exploded and priced himself out. 4 years at $3.5 million per is a fair deal. Even at his current level, $3.5 million with a rising cap won't be bad.

If I were JR, I would lock up both Spaling and Sutter long term right now. 4 years at $1.75 million per for Spaling.

I'm all in for Vrbata and Kuli to be our signings

I would **** everywhere if JR managed to do that

I was intrigued at the idea of bringing Iggy back, but after reading what a lot of Boston fans had to say about him I really cooled down on the idea.

Despite his excellent statistical season he was apparently pretty underwhelming for long stretches and didn't show up for the playoffs. They were not too upset to see him move on.

Bylsma gets a lot of justified blame for mis-using him but as many felt from watching him in a Pens sweater, he is definitely into the twilight of his career. I'd pass.

I wouldn't mind that myself. They get job security and we gain cost certainty for years to come.

I don't see how there is no flexibility. All 4 of those are capable of not looking out of place on the 3rd line. I get what you mean (no 3rd liners that can also not look out of place in the top-6). The only realistic thing we could do IMO is trade Sutter for a winger like Stewart, play Spaling at 3C (he's equally as good at center as he is on the wing) and playing Dupuis and Bennett on the 3rd line.

That's all I meant. No one who wouldn't look out of place if the coach moved them up if he wanted to mix things up. That's honestly my biggest fear of putting BB in to the top 6. That and when someone gets hurt, we're in the same situation.

Going that route, leaves you with just over 4m (assuming NK 3.3m, NS 2.2m, SD 1.2m) for 1 top 6 winger. Might make more sense to go that route. No clue if JR agree's or not.

why would we sign someone like Mark Fayne if we also keep Scuderi?

I don't like any line-ups with Scuderi. I like line-ups with Scuderi AND another d-signing even less. It makes no sense. We need to let these kids play. The only way it makes sense to sign a d-man is if we move Scuds out.

You do know there's this thing called the salary cap, right? And maybe, just maybe, this team wants to do better than scrubs like Megna, Vitale, and/or Gibbons on the fourth line. He isn't going to earn anything playing in the wrong role on a third line. If the Penguins don't want to use him in a top 6 role [Bennett], they should trade him. Otherwise, he needs a long look.

lol. So. Much. Fail. :shakehead
