Still no official number on the cap ceiling for this season. League and the PA are apparently still haggling. Would be surprised if it isn't finalized today, though.

sureshot, the news and notes section is really well done!

Thank you, sir. As guys sign elsewhere, it'll be updated.

I think the Ducks got a decent deal in the trade. Time will tell but it doesn't look as bad as what we almost gave up for him.

That said, it's pretty telling to me how free agents view this team. Kesler orginally had Pittsburgh on his preferred destination list, and he took it off that list and it was down to two places he was willing to go to.

This does make me wonder how off we are about what it would cost to get Kane or whoever. I know Kesler had a NTC but still.

Huge difference. Age, no NTC/NMC, signed to a very low cap hit with term compared to what will be handed out. It will be very high.

Too much?

Ooookay then. This trade absolutely sets them up to go through LA in the playoffs.

If it was Bonino and Lindholm or Vatanen, different story. Sbisa is nothing, and really this was Bonino's first good year, and he's 26.

Too much?

For a guy that may set them up to go through other Western teams, yeah, it is too much.

i actually don't mind the cap staying at 68-70, because it might help JR make some good decisions, but it's absolutely unfair that they have said 71$+ firmly this entire time and now, as teams are about to make trades/signings, they want to drop it $3MM.

Canucks trade Garrison to Tampa for the 50th pick essentially. They now have 2 1sts and 2 2nds. Though that's a pretty bad return for Garrison, they look like they're in a full blown rebuild mode.

If a 68 mil cap forces one of Dupuis or Scuds out of here, so be it.

Would Dupuis need to pass a physical or can a team just accept it as a buy as is type deal?

We might be stretching the boundaries of "legit" here, but since you asked...

http://blog.triblive.com/chipped-ice/2014/06/27/rossi-pens-taking-calls-on-neal

-- For those not wanting to click... Rutherford has gotten calls on Neal (most of all), Letang and Martin. Not that he's openly shopping anyone.

-- Malkin's camp wouldn't be thrilled with Neal getting dealt, especially because Jokinen is likely a goner and that would mean two new linemates for 71.

-- Not expecting Fleury to be dealt.

Any legit Pens rumors?

I don't think so. The only thing I've seen today is Dreger tweeted that the Pens have to decide what they are going to do with Neal, which is a very vague statement. I've been glued to Twitter all day and haven't seen a thing.
