Should be a big rating. Only problem is it's Saturday evening, so it may not eclipse Game 1. Maybe in Tampa.
And the game is close and there were goals.
Too bad the shift to NBCSN may kill some of that momentum.
The Tampa Bay Lightning’s 4-3 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks to even their Stanley Cup Final series at one game apiece drew a 4.8 overnight household rating on NBC. That’s up versus the 4.23 overnight rating for Thursday night’s game 1 and a record metered market rating for a game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final.
The rating was also up vs. the 4.6 overnight rating for last year’s Kings-Rangers game 2 which similarly aired after a Belmont Stakes where a bid for horse racing’s Triple Crown was in play, but this year’s number might have been bolstered due to American Pharoah’s win and race viewers sticking around for post-race coverage of the first Triple Crown winner since 1978.
The game drew a 22.6 rating in Chicago and a 15.1 in Tampa. Buffalo was 3rd with a 8.6 followed by Milwaukee with a 6.7 and Ft. Meyers with a 6.5.

Changes , what exactly can change.
You cant force people to watch hockey, it has a core base just be happy with that .
It used to be a lot worse.
The time when the Stanley Cup Finals are played could change. It needs to be pushed back to an earlier date so it doesn't interfere with the NBA finals and all the other stuff going on now.
Start the regular season a week and a half earlier (some time in late September), which would then start the playoffs in early April. a perfect time when the playoffs should start would be right after the NCAA baseketball championship game. That game is on a Monday, the playoffs could start on a Wednesday.
I know competing with the NFL for a longer period of time then necessary is not in the cards. If anything, starting the season later might make more sense.

In Tampa more people watched Belmont Stakes than Stanley Cup Final.
17.8 vs. 15.1 (Game 2).
I believed anything over 5 million for the weekend game NBC would've been happy with....Those preliminary numbers are only from 8-10eastern time...So there is an hour missing...That last hour where the game was close is where it peaked at....
Last year's game 2 did 6.4 million same scenario with Belmont and it being on a Saturday night..
This series has a lot of momentum: two exciting teams, 2 markets that are galvanizing behind their teams...Add this up and we could see some record game 6-7 tv ratings...
What I was implying usually game starts about 8:15pm eastern and ends about 10:45 eastern time....TV by the numbers is only showing a 2 hour window. Or maybe the game was that quick and I am totally mistaken.

For those who are still in the business of the NBAF/SCF being a competition, dont expect an impressive rating from Game 2 tonight. Low scoring game, major star out + going up against the Tony Awards and SNB
"Low scoring game Thats was tied up the entire game that went into overtime and the star that was out was on the same team as lebron so there was still lebron vs curry also ppl who enjoy the tonys are not watching basketball in the first placeFor those who are still in the business of the NBAF/SCF being a competition, dont expect an impressive rating from Game 2 tonight.
