Solid numbers

http://nbcsportsgrouppressbox.com/2...stanley-cup-final-game-6-overnight-on-record/

The 5.6 overnight for Game 6, in which the Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-0 to win their third Stanley Cup in six years, trails only the 2010 Game 6 between the Blackhawks and Philadelphia Flyers (5.8) and the 2013 Game 6 between the Blackhawks and Boston Bruins (5.7). Last night’s game is up 40% vs. the 2012 Game 6 between the New Jersey Devils and Los Angeles Kings (4.0).

Locally, the Chicago market delivered a 41.0 HH rating, its highest ever for a Blackhawks game, and a 57 share. The Chicago rating is the highest local rating for any market for a non-Game 7 on NBC. Tampa posted a 15.2 HH rating, its second-best ever on NBC.

With the Chicago 41.0 rating compared to 2013 and the 31.0 rating. This game should wine up around 8.3 mill-8.5. If you put Boston's Local or New York if they were in the finals looking at 9 plus million easily....Maybe 10 for a game 6. Tampa Bay/Chicago put up very well respectable numbers.....

I agree Gecko, you do have a point...Now this was a sunbelt team and not many people felt this series would do as good, but I think do believe having 2 games on NBCSN did stall some of the momentum...When your viewership takes 30-40% hit from games 1 and 2...it takes some time to reboot...Especially coming off of that game 2 where you had some real good numbers...

Seattle gets an asterisk as the NBC station (KING) there refuses to air hockey in favor of local news and the games are moved to a UHF channel. Plus Seattle also gets CBC on basic cable and those numbers are not measured.

Actually, that was the case last year where the games were put on KONG 16. This year all 4 games were on KING 5.

WGN-TV early Tuesday morning found a fan out of central casting

The Chicago number on Monday was impressive when you benchmark it with other Chicago sporting events.

63.1 household rating for the Bears' 1986 Super Bowl XX victory over the New England Patriots on WMAQ- Ch. 5.

53.1 household rating for the Bulls' 1997 NBA title clincher against the Utah Jazz on WMAQ-Ch. 5.

52.1 household rating for Bulls 1998 NBA title clincher -- and Michael Jordan's final game for Chicago -- against the Utah Jazz on WMAQ-Ch. 5.

50.2 household rating for the Bears' 2007 Super Bowl XLI loss to the Indianapolis Colts on WBBM-Ch. 2.

47.1 household rating for the Cubs' loss to the Florida Marlins in the decisive Game 7 of the 2003 National League Championship Series on WFLD-Ch. 32.

42.0 household rating for the White Sox decisive Game 4 victory over the Houston Astros in 2005 World Series on WFLD-Ch. 32.

We will have final national numbers tomorrow and then we will close the thread down and start again next season.

But here is the simple truth on both sides of the border. If you DON'T have a rooting interest in the playoffs, the numbers are going to be meh.

Somehow Chicago post a 54.9 for Super Bowl this year, even higher than Seattle, without Bears it's mind boggling.

Super Bowl is its own universe. Nationally it did a 49.7 :amazed:

The ratings in Tampa show that hockey is still a hard sell in the area as 85% of the people living in the market had no interest in the Stanley Cup.

The thing is Tampa started out of the gate great with a 20.0 rating for game 1. Then kinda flat lined....I though as the series progressed it would maybe climb to 25.0-30.0... All in all I thought Tampa did alright.....If you put St.Louis, Detroit, Minny, Boston, New York in these finals with Chicago. Would've seen some record breaking numbers..nationally

That tells me quite a few sampled hockey in Game 1 and didn't like what they saw.

Imagine you decide to watch a hockey game for the first time and you put on NBC and one of the first things you see is

milbury.jpg

The most telling number was Game 5 when the series was 2-2 and the Tampa number didn't move.
