So happy for Marty! He deserves it big time. He will give it his all which is still very good even at his age. Definition of a class act and HOF player.

Giroux made himself an easy target by skipping the orientation camp (even when other injured players went) and then starting the year off poorly. Add the fact that he would be yet another center asked to play out of position on the wing and it is not that surprising that he is not headed to Sochi.

Happy for Marty, but what does Giroux have to do?

He's got more points than virtually anyone since the last Olympics. Even after an abysmal start this season, there's only 7 Canadian forwards with more points than him, 8 if you allow that Stamkos would do too. I just don't see the justification for not picking him in the first place...

Same for MSL in the original squad mind.

I'm left to wonder a bit if this was already pre-arranged in some way, that if Stamkos couldn't go that his teammate would receive his spot?

Probably not, just some random crap floating through my head is all.

Get the hell out of here with that "logic" that makes perfect "sense" and completely "explains the situation".

NOW back to the baseless speculation! Crosby must've been pretty upset about Giroux unfriending him on Facebook AMIRITE?

Bit of a sentimental pick, but he can certainly still play with the best. It doesn't really matter who they take out of Giroux/MSL/Neal etc.

So you have an issue with Marty? The guy who LITERALLY has the most points since the last Olympics?

Not a big fan of this selection.

Marty St Louis is purely a goal-scorer. If he can't be used in a scoring role then he's going to be riding the pine.

There are more dynamic options available. Personally would've preferred Eric Staal or Claude Giroux.

You sir need to spend less time on message boards and more time watching hockey. St. Louis is a fantastic playmaker as well and one of the reasons that Stamkos scores as much as he does. He could likely very quickly build Chemistry with any player on the team.

St. Louis, Giroux, or Neal. Any of the three would have been a good choice.

I don't think anyone should be surprised that Yzerman and company took St.Louis. Not that he doesn't deserve it, but Yzerman was going to take one of his guys regardless. Now, if St.Louis goes on to have a bad tournament, then he'll deserve to feel some heat from it, but there shouldn't be an issue with MSL being selected. It is what it is.....

This is just pure speculation on your part until you can provide evidence that Crosby asked Hockey Canada that Giroux not be on the roster. Like most conspiracy theorists, you will not be able to provide any proof.

And here you go...

Awesome. St. Louis should have been on this team the whole time. He's quick, strong (not just for his size), and he's a fierce FIERCE competitor. They should slot him in on Crosby's line. We keep hearing "Crosby's a playmaker, you need a scorer on his line." Why not have someone setup Crosby for goals? The guy won a Rocket Richard.
