Some Random thoughts:

- Hurley was not happy with the Varone hit.

- Compher and Mackenzie with some major wacking and hacking at each other behind the net and play.
- Grigorenko was on the ice for at least the last two goals against. I saw frustration on his face when he was coming back to the bench.

- It was hard for me to follow the prospects at this game. I considered learning the jersey numbers ahead of time. It would have been a waste seeing that the numbers were only on the back of their jerseys. Plus I'm not just following 1 teams players. It's both; a lot of players. 40 to follow, and I wanted to follow them all.

A handful of the prospects were limping when they were walking away from the autograph. Just from the development camp and a scrimmage - shows what professional hockey players go through - and most of them aren't even professionals yet.

- I never saw Florentino once. Too many players to track.

- I noticed Austin though. Big.

- Most of them didn't look big canalside though. Even Zadorov looks like a skinny kid. (not to mention Hurley maybe? - looked like a middle schooler). I didn't see Zemgus.

- Thought there would be more people there to see 10k maniacs.

Just a tip, it's always worth having a line-up card. I usually make my own and print it out when I go to games, just so that I can quickly reference guys on the other team. I wish I'd done it for the practice I went to yesterday because I kept forgetting a bunch of the numbers that I'd figured out as the session went on.

Agree about those guys being lanky. They're kids still, only certain body types can take a lot of bulk at that age and still be athletic. Hurley doesn't even turn 18 until mid-September. Zadorov has decent bulk but he still looks fairly lanky. It might take some years for him to properly put on weight rather than rushing it (see: Myers).

Thanks for the advice. Halfway through the game I couldnt even find my lineup sheet after my 3 year old son decided to crumble it up (with a smile on his face).

Just noticed I haven't seen a lot of talk about Knapp. Thought he was head and shoulders above the other goalies.

He takes up so much of the net, and he showed quick feet on a couple rebound attempts down low. The only goal he allowed (Cat's) looked like a rolling puck that got higher than he thought.

I went last night, their is no way you can focus in on more than a handful of players.

After the first few minutes I thought the blue defense controlled the game, Zadorov made great outlet passes and was physical all night, Ristolainen and McCabe played how you would like expect and Pysyk is so steady. I really liked McNabb for yellow.

not a fan of having 18 year old defenceman play in the league, but Ristolainen is going to get a very long look at training and could make the team out of training camp and get a 9 game look or play the entire season.

Writing an article about the scrimmage yesterday. Anyone want me to include anything they thought was a good stand out? It's my first one for this site! Talked about the impressive work and body throwing by Zads and Girgensons taking a big step forward, then the talk about Rasmus, Pysyk, Leduc and a few others.

Dawn Braid's work with Grigorenko appears to be paying off as his skating looks much better.

Impressed with Zadorov being very vocal on the ice, calling plays, chatting with teamates between plays, etc. (esp. given still learning English)

Pysyk is ready for the NHL. Silky smooth defender.

Girgensons is a warrior. The exact type of drive and battle you want from your players.

Honorable Mention: Possler, Ristolainen, McCabe, Pysyk, McNabb, C Peterson, Catanacci

Thank you to all who have provided updates.

Yes, thank you. Really love what I'm seeing from Pysyk and Girgensons. That Zadarov hit was something of beauty. A few of the young guys looked great. But man, Makarov? What's up with that?

Czuczman was in the corner on Girgensons goal, having gone for the hit on Baptiste. Didn't see who his partner was at that moment. Girgorenko is on the backcheck -- I think it's JGL.
Grigorenko could be added to that list as well, as I'm fairly certain he was on the ice for five goals against (1, 3-6).

It seemed like Grigs was out there for a lot of the goals, yeah. Seemed like he was stifled, but I still stand by my notion that Blue team was stacked.

I am Toronto fan, but like to read this thread because RR. Good to hear that he has been good for your camp.

You will have so sick skilled and huge "D" in few years and actually you have that already. Myers, RR and Zadorov puts other teams forwards to cry.

About Zadorov, he's born -95, absolutely huge frame and lot of skill with potential to be next Chara and steal in this draft, good for you, bad for other teams. Zadorov and RR also has both some mean streak in their skill sets. :amazed:

Our big defense going up against your defense with mobile offensive talents like Reilly and Gardiner will be great fun for our rivalry

Agree. Hope these our D prospects reach their potential. I think we have now at least one reason to pay Clarkson too much $. :sarcasm:

Work over the weekend, didn't see the highlights, but based on the comment here, it sounds like Grigorenko didn't have a particularly good scrim.

This worry anyone? I know the Blue Team's defense had the bulk of our high picks, but I'm surprised Grigs couldn't create anything at all (again, basing that from what I've seen on this thread).

He's supposed to have that 'guaranteed spot' and he's probably, initially, looking at top-6 minutes (due to the fact that he hasn't shown he can play a bottom-6 role really anywhere). If he can't create in this scrim, that worries me come October.

Disclaimer: Someone talk to me on how he's still a candidate to be a 1-C. Which is what they need him to be.

Considering he's a developing rookie, a work in progress, and an unfinished product.... I am not worried at all about Grigorenko. Fast forward 3-4 years, if he still has "issues" then I'll start my concern.

I was at the scrimmage on Friday and, regarding Grigorenko, I am not worried as much about his ability to create. I thought he made a few nice offensive plays during the second period of the scrimmage and, with improved speed and strength, the creativity will show threw more often.

What I am truly worried about with Grigorenko is his noticeable lack of compete and lack of energy. To me, he is always gliding on his skates, never racing to the puck, never competing hard in a one-on-one, especially in the defensive end. The 3rd period of the scrimmage put this aspect of his game on full display, as he continually glided around the defensive zone nonchalantly as numerous goals were being scored against.

I understand he is not a third-line grinder. He is a top 6 skilled offensive player. I believe his skill set will put up points, especially on the PP. But his compete level and lack of energy/intensity will render him completely non-existent in the playoffs unless he improves in this area of his game. I do believe he will improve and I have high hopes for him, but the more viewings I get (Friday's scrimmage included), the more doubts and questions marks I'm left with.

i am not worried at all.

Check back in September in preseason camp/games.

the way the lines appeared to be set up was the better offensive players were going up against the better defensive players.

These camps led relatively smart guys like Vogl to proclaim that Gerbe was far too good to keep out of the NHL at one point. It's an interesting peak, not a definitive one.

Not worried.

He's guaranteed a roster spot, which is separate from playing time. There is still a lot of skill there that one can not teach.

As for the scrimmage performance, it would be interesting to see him get time against Czuczman and Lepkowski and Gauthier-Leduc and see what happens to his scoring totals. Everyone is going ape over the game Girgensons had and he (and everyone else) ate up an undrafted-invitee and two AHL-ish talents on Gold's defense.

I'm more worried about JGL at this point than any other prospect in the system. He appears to be another PP specialist who is not grasping the fundementals of sound d-zone play. When the thought was that he'd take a long, long time... well, he doesn't look much closer.
