Not worried.

He's guaranteed a roster spot, which is separate from playing time. There is still a lot of skill there that one can not teach.

As for the scrimmage performance, it would be interesting to see him get time against Czuczman and Lepkowski and Gauthier-Leduc and see what happens to his scoring totals. Everyone is going ape over the game Girgensons had and he (and everyone else) ate up an undrafted-invitee and two AHL-ish talents on Gold's defense.

I'm more worried about JGL at this point than any other prospect in the system. He appears to be another PP specialist who is not grasping the fundementals of sound d-zone play. When the thought was that he'd take a long, long time... well, he doesn't look much closer.

Hmm, seems to be some divergent opinions on here. I recall someone saying JGL was the best player on the ice at one point in Dev Camp. (I cannot recall if it was during the scrimmage or during one of the shinny days.)

He's got NHL-level skills, offensively. But the execution of his primary role has a great deal of room to improve.

Same apprehension. PP specialist/own end liability is a deal breaker for me.

Having the Sabres near the top in shorthanded goals against the past few seasons (13 against is inexcusable imo, not that 7 is preferable...) is an organizational embarrassment.

Really like what JGL does well, still hoping the time invested and positional coaching is beginning to sink in. Eventually I grew to love Soupy; it can happen.

Agreed, the guy has amazing speed, hands, etc... But he has virtually zero physicality. He has insane potential, but highly doubt he reaches it.

Yeah, he was a project when they took him and still is. It would be nice to see him start to come around defensively so his skills become an asset rather than his deficiences being a liability out there as they were for the Amerks this year.

Or simple bust out as an offenseman. So much of his offensive contribution is based on his shot though, rather than speed/creativity like Soupy. The guy he could model himself on is Phil Boucher who was all shot, less D until he started to fill out. Boucher played at around 220-225. JGL filled out and stronger would help him deal with engagement defensively.

If MBossySabre is on HFBoards, I just want to publicly say that I thank you and am indebted to you for your selflessness in uploading these videos.

Hey guys. Thanks for that. Trying to film and watch the game at the same time is tough.

It's been fun over the years watching these guys develop.
