I saw that. I wonder if he's going to university this next term.

That's most likely the case!

I'm not 100% about that but I think he'll have to wait until next fall to start playing for a CIS team.

Also there are two transactions that I forgot to post :
-Ryan Potulny has signed with Hershey

-Zach Bell (St.John's) has been assigned to the OHL

Good call.

Gardiner MacDougall, fresh off a gold-medal victory with the Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey conference all-star team in Italy, announced on Friday that two prized recruits who wriggled off the hook in the fall have jumped back into the boat with the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds.
Duffy signed a one-year contract with the Montreal Canadiens organization after a strong showing at their spring rookie camp and began the season with the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League. But after playing 15 games in the AHL and collecting just two assists, he was dispatched to the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL. He averaged a point a game there — four goals and two assists in six games. But MacDougall said he received a text from Duffy while he was in Italy indicating that he was interested in pursuing the academic route.

Stephen MacAulay has been released by the Hamilton Bulldogs
http://theahl.com/stats/transactions.php?f_season_id=43&f_team_id=326

I guess that just like Duffy, he'll play in the CIS next year.

Also, Warren Peters has been released from his PTO and signed to a SPC by Iowa.

Joe Lavin is missing from the list of Springfield Falcons AHL contracts this year, although he has spent the entire season with Evansville of the ECHL, he did sign the AHL deal back in July (http://theahl.com/falcons-sign-mass-native-lavin-p184956)

Also, the PTO 25-Game rule you're following is not necessarily correct. I do believe players have the ability to sign a maximum of two consecutive 25-game PTO's with a single team, so essentially, once a player has played 51 games with a club, it is safe to assume they are playing under an SPC.

Added! Thanks for letting me know!

I understand the rule. However, when a player signs a second PTO it should normally be posted on the AHL.com's transactions page.

Once a player passes the 25-game mark (and no PTO-related transactions are posted on theahl.com), I just assume that he was signed for the whole year.

Just noticed on the AHL transactions page Hartford claimed T.J Hensick on waivers today. I wonder which AHL team had signed him and tried to get him through waivers? You don't these type of waiver claims often in the A.

Weird, had no idea that AHL had waivers!

Scuttlebutt on Twitter is that Abbotsford signed Hensick, but he had to clear waivers because he was playing in Sweden (?! :dunno:) and he was claimed by Hartford.

That's bizarre. I had no idea this existed either.

So many players in the AHL are under contract with NHL teams it probably never needs to comes up all that often.

AHL waivers are for free agent players that played non-North American games during the current season. The rule is exactly the same as the NHL's, only I believe it's 72 hours instead of 48 (or 48 instead of 24, I can't remember which).

Players on NHL contracts that are assigned/loaned to non-North American clubs are exempt from the rule.
