Hershey extends Wellar

The HERSHEY BEARS announced today that the club has assigned defenseman Patrick Wellar to the Reading Royals (ECHL). Additionally, Wellar has been signed to a one-year contract for the 2013-14 season. The announcements were made by BEARS President/GM Doug Yingst.

Wellar, 29, appeared in 19 games with the Bears this season – his fifth in Chocolatetown – recording one assist, 52 penalty minutes and a plus-two efficiency rating. He was scoreless with 22 penalty minutes in five Calder Cup playoff contests.

Confirmed by Chicago
http://www.chicagowolveshockey.org/news/releases/item/3651-wolves-bring-back-climie

With those annoying words
In accordance with team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

At least this time it was confirmed by Strickland and by Climie's agent that it's a two years deal.

By the way, I find it pretty uncommon too see a veteran goaltender staying for so long with the same team.

If Billins doesn't get a NHL deal I will be shocked.

I think he'll get one but it might no be with Detroit since they already have 40 players under contract for next season.

Not sure if it's too relevant, but per the AHL transactions page (http://theahl.com/stats/transactions.php?f_season_id=42&f_team_id=309), the Providence Bruins had signed defensemen David MacDonald (05/15) and Matt Case (05/17).

MacDonald, who spent the majority of the season with Cincinnati (ECHL) save for a 4-gamer with San Antonio, got into 5 playoff games before the Bruins were eliminated.

Case, who spent the majority of the season with Idaho (ECHL) save for a 5-gamer with Manchester, did not get into a single game, and has since signed on with Lillehammer IHK (Norway) per this link: http://www.lillehammerhockey.no/index.php/senior/content/view/full/2133

Not sure why they didn't call a PTO instead of a SPC

Per the Kamloops Blazers' twitter account

https://twitter.com/blazerhockey/status/338000461426733057

I really thought he'd get an NHL deal from Dallas but I guess this is the next best thing for him.

By the way, it's only a PTO. I don't know if it was Ranford or the Texas Stars request. They were just rumors that Ranford was interested to play for the University of Calgary. Maybe he signed a PTO because it would be easier to escape from that contract in case his stay in Texas wouldn't work out.

Jeff Taffe was released from his deal with Linköping (Sweden) due to personal reasons.

This probably means that he'll play in North America next year.

Matt Marquardt knew this would happen, but not necessarily this fast.

The 25-year-old forward, who played much of last season’s second half on a professional tryout contract with the Checkers, has agreed to terms on one-way AHL deal that will bring him back to Charlotte for next season. Even prior to last season’s playoffs, he knew a contract offer was coming – the team had directly told him as much – but didn’t expect to have things more or less finalized by the beginning of June.

mirtle 8:13pm via UberSocial for BlackBerry Marlies have re-signed netminder Drew MacIntyre, according to @darrigoart. Was outstanding for them late in year.

I'll wait until there is an official word from either the Leafs or the Marlies before adding him to the list.

Also, I would be a little surprised if it's only a AHL deal because MacIntyre had become the Leafs' third string goaltender (which in my mind was enough to get a two-way).
