2013 is superior to 2014 in pretty much every way. Including the top defender in each.

How many times have you seen Ekblad play? Unless you're an amateur scout (you're not) I'm believing zip zop zoobidty bop of what you say.

Sure 2013 is shaping to be deeper than many drafts, however 2014's class isn't looking bad either.

A guy I'd be thrilled for the Stars to get in 2014 is defenseman Roland McKeown from Kingston. Guy will be a stud.

Haven't watched many 2014 prospects so I'm just going off of scouting reports. But I doubt he's even close to Jones' ability. There won't be another defenseman like Jones for some time (unless Day lives up to his early hype).

If the hype about Ekblad is true he should be better then Jones. He was only the second 'Exceptional Player' in CHL history Tavares was first

Jones pretty easily would've been (and MacKinnon too, IMO) if it weren't only the OHL implementing that rule.

I think the rule was for the whole CHL but I could be wrong, there is 1 kid in Edmonton who applied for it this season his name is tyler benson, unless it just started covering all of CHL this year

That's your problem. I've seen Ekblad play in person 3 times and countless times online. The kid is an exceptional defenseman, not a product of his environment a la Nick Ebert before he was drafted.

Should be interesting to see 2014 rankings throughout the next few months.

Exactly kids only 17 and he's already 6'3 207lbs (on hockey db) to. He also has more hype then Day did at 15 since Ekblad went first overall his year and teams were pretty worried about Day translating his game to the OHL as a 15 year old causing him to drop to 4th

So with Edmonton getting a new GM, and the new GM promising bold moves coming, is there anything in that that could involve the Stars? Maybe Gagner?

What do you guys think?

IMO, something around Daley and Gagner works for both sides.

I don't think we have the defenseman they are looking for. I expect them to go hard after a high profile guy, maybe one of the Jets, for a Gagner+2013 1st type package

I personally want the biggest most physical team in the league. I want to smash my way through the playoffs.

Well we can sign and trade for loads of big gritty guys, but we will not win much. You need some Loui's and Ryder's :)().

Sergei Gonchar gives Dallas 39 players under contract (2 of those contracts don't count against the 50 limit).

Their cap situation w/16 players:

  • $47,883,611 - Cap Payroll
  • $16,416,389 - Cap Space

loui is not small and plays a sound overall game

you can keep ryder--he's a one trick pony with no defense

Worded that wrong about Loui (he is not small or soft, but I wouldn't call him "gritty"), I only meant Ryder. Also Ryder won the cup with the Bruins, would gladly take him back.

If Sean Avery won a cup would you gladly welcome him back too?
