It's looking like our tough schedule to start hurt us even more than we expected it would and that a lighter schedule and more practices has helped. It may - and likely will - still turn out that we can't dig out of that early hole. I suspect that this will be because teams that hit a dense patch of games this late into the season will still have a level of systems play and cohesion instilled that we just didn't have at the start of the season.

MacDrai are both franchise man not nr1. One is a generational talent and the other is an franchise center. We don't have something like this. At least the oilers have a Holland as a GM. They have some hope.

For me number 1 are PPG or near PPG players when it comes to forwards. Drai is 1 tier above and McD is 2 tiers above. Even with them they won't do much unless they put Gretzky like numbers.

We're where the Oilers were two years ago when Chiarelli was fired.

Oilers situation is looking up now, they're actually in striking range of being a real team. 12 skater contracts need renewal this year so the potential for turnover is huge. 2.3 mil buyout money drops off. The only problem contracts at this point are Neal and Kassian. Yamamoto and Holloway are young, cheap top 6 forwards. One of Bouchard or Broberg probably becomes a top 4 dman on ELC or is trade bait to dump Neal and acquire a 3C/goalie. They mainly need depth so smart UFA signings could get the job done.

The main difference is they fired their franchise destroyer and hired an average GM, and 2.5 years later they will be mostly free from that carnage. We still have our franchise destroyer in charge.

Yeah...and that's the best case scenario. If Benning stays on for another 2-3 years, this could just be our Hall/Eberle/RNH stage.

I think you could get a top 6 winger for Horvat and a top 3 defenseman to play alongside Hughes for that money.

Where would the team be with actual good players taking up the cap that the has been trash does in the bottom 6?
