I said at the time that Giordano play was cheap as ****. Many of us did. Can’t understand the viewpoint of the HF hivemind that it was a good hockey play.

I dont know if it was dirty but it most certainly was reckless.
No excuse for that play.

About the injury and the rehab. It looks really really really good.

Scheduled to air on Sportsnet after the All Star Skills Competition.

What I caught from the preview:

- it was a complete PCL tear
- multiple tears at the back of the knee joint
- severe bone bruises
- he had to make a decision about surgery which would affect the rest of his career within 2 days
- no one has done this type of rehab before this quickly

I wonder how he didn't have surgery with a fully torn PCL. Not that I'm a doctor or anything, but when I grade 3 tore mine as well, they surgically repaired it right away.

What a tough f***ing kid man. Imagine the rehab from that. Nobody is like Connor. He's obsessed with being the best.

Still can't believe what a dumb play that was by Gio in a nothing game

I bet Connor also starts to realize not to go full bore when he doesn't need to after being injured big twice.

Stupid and reckless and extremely dirty in my opinion, especially with the speed Connor was going.

I loved seeing that group speedbagged in 5 by Colorado.

He hasn't rushed the net like that since - and he doesn't need to.

We are lucky it was the PCL though, commonly known as the least important knee ligament for a hockey player (but one of the most important for a football player IIRC).

If it was the MCL or ACL we would be looking at surgery for sure and a year recovery.

So is he going to play the rest of his career without a PCL in his left knee? Doesn't seem all that wise? But what do I know.

I think it’s the least important knee ligament for a hockey player, thankfully. It might even allow him to go faster lol.

I know someone involved with the production of this and learned a few interesting things (not sure if they are mentioned in the trailer or made it into the final cut), but, for discussion:
  • The range of medical opinions was crazy; one doctor said surgery was needed immediately and that he would need two years of rehab;
  • The Oilers paid $4M to assemble a team of something like 10 specialists to develop a regimen for Connor to follow in a private facility near Toronto (NDAs etc. are the reason that the media didn't have the full story); and
  • For large portions of the summer, Connor was in the pool for 10+ hours a day.

The 2 years part isn't that surprising. Everything that people were saying about PCL injuries was on the "long side" of a normal injury rehab. I saw websites saying 18-24 months was considered normal for certain PCL injuries. Obviously he didn't need that long to get back up to speed, but you gotta think that he won't really be 100% for some time still. Likely the start of next season you would imagine, after a full off-season for training and additional healing.

Again, its simply CRAZY how much misinformation the Oilers were spouting. This is all the evidence anybody should ever need for never trusting a single thing they say about injuries again.
