of course it is. If one of the teams in the 3-7 range wants to trade up and pay for it, carolina would think about it.

Detroit moving up to get svechnikov would be an interesting scenario.

This really isnt news. Almost every team will listen to an offer for their pick
I remember when Florida was talking big about even trading the Ekblad pick, and there were even offers made, and Tallon described them as "over and above". But of course he kept the pick and the same will happen to this one.

From the GM's point of view, if Waddell says, "I do not have to think at all with that pick. I will just pick the obvious choice and build around him" then he seems less professional, and less hardworking. So there's no other answer than to say that the pick is up for grabs. I recall even Chiarelli refused to say he would not trade the McDavid pick.

I didn't think it possible...these offers are getting worse. Not looking to add picks or set back our rebuild...we're looking for pieces to end our rebuild.
Just Canes fans asking for a center. Galchenyuk can play here but the Habs won’t pay him there.

Montreal replaces Galchenyuk on the wing with Svechnikov. Canes get someone to play top 6 center where I personally find he plays his best.

Montreal could use Hanifin with Weber. Move Pacioretty to get possibly a center.

Canes are loaded on defense. The extra picks aren’t there for them to rebuild but to add some value to the deal while getting an option to play top 6 center which I’ve seen Canes fans asking for.

Skinner Staal Williams
Aho Galchenyuk Lindholm
Teravainen Rask Zadina
Martinook Nordstrom Di Giuseppe
McGinn

Slavin Faulk
Van Riemsdyk Pesce
Fleury Dahlbeck

Why would Philly need to add 17. Patrick was a number two and considered neck and neck Hischier to the draft floor. Put up 30 but missed 9 games and coming into this year was coming of some major down time. Basically it’s a straight swap IMO but I would rather have a C than a winger regardless of how good they are. You build teams down the middle.

agree. Patrick for pick #2 seems like a fair swap.
Carolina gets their C, Philly gets an elite winger prospect that would probably jump into their top 6 right away

you arent getting pick 2 (and the better prospect) and replacing galchenyuk with haninfin by dumping a couple 2nds on the canes

#5 + Perlini?

I dont think perlin bridges the gap between svechnikov and tkachuk/wahlstrom personally

Of course not, but we're listening to offers in case someone values Svechnikov enough to make that kind of deal.

if thats what it would take to move the pick there is no point even saying they are listening.
I think the canes could easily move down to 5,6 or 7 and it wont bring back matthews/mcdavid/eichel

Egads, that's an ugly lineup. Dahlbeck signed overseas. Aho and Lindholm both play best at C. Necas almost certainly makes the Canes next season. Rask's probably our 4C if he's not moved. All in all, Galy's not a clear-cut improvement worth downgrading from Svechnikov to Zadina and the picks aren't compelling.

I'm doubtful, if the Canes move #2, the Habs have interesting assets to be in trade contention.

I'll even throw in Ottawa's 2nd rounder. That's two 2nd rounders for the 1st rounder. And if I can learn you some math, 1 x 2 = 2. So mathematically, each 2nd is worth twice as much as that 1st. So you're really getting four times the value. We're getting hosed here. You'd be an idiot to say no.
I cant agree, I mean argue with this logic.

And then Philly is left with Couturier and Laughton as it's 2 centers.

Reality is, Philly is LOOKING for a 3rd line C for this coming year to play behind Couts and Patrick.

Philly was lucky to win the lottery and grab a C with #1 upside....then added Frost as well. They have no extra centers to trade.

“There’s a really good chance ____________________ happens this year?” is the NHL media’s favorite mad lib.

Not happening.

Can someone post a list of what type of assets the Canes are looking for?

Edm gets: Faulk + 2nd overall

Car gets: Puljujärvi + Klefbom + 10th overall

Might be a little much from Oilers perspective but you have to give to get. From Carolinas perspective you’d get to reunite Aho and Puljujärvi.

Too little, Too much? Thoughts?

Starting goalie
Top line forward
Vet D

That's about it. Canes have a ton of depth already so don't need to collect more assets at the expense of a better player.

What position for the forward? Handedness for the D? An offensive D, PP specialist, shutdown D? Does it matter?

Thanks in advance.

Yawn.

We hear this about all the top picks every year.

Nothing will happen, nothing ever does.

You're absolutely correct.

However, on that basis, there'd be a lot of currently active threads, shut down.

C is probably the preference, but not as pressing a need as it was a year ago with Aho playing there and Necas coming, so a top line offensive winger can work too (Svech)

Depends what they do on D. If they trade Faulk they'll be weak on the right side and need offence from the back end. If they keep him then a steady LHD would do. The D missed Hainsey last year so someone similar if not a bit better I'd say
